Pattern of occipital headaches/brainfog

I thought I would throw my situation out there to get some comments from those on this forum.  I had a whiplash concussion/lower back trauma in an accident 11 years ago.  I had 7 months of headaches/brain fog/fatigue before things returned to normal.  My issue is this.....I have had 5 instances since then where I have come down with a fever, like the flu was coming on.  Each time I revert back to the same symptoms described above.  I did have an mri after the initial incident, and they saw a 1mm chiari herniation, but the neuro dismissed this in regard to my symptoms.  My last mri 3 years ago showed nothing in regard to chiari.  The symptoms eventually dissapate, but it takes months.  I guess the pattern is starting to establish itself, and it really impacts my lifestyle.  I have another appointment with a neuro in 2 weeks.  Could this be something related to chiari?  Or inner ear issues (balance is off when all this happens as well).  This really disturbs me as to why I take on these same symptoms after just a fever which should be easy to get over......and what route to take to get this resolved.  Any comments out there?

Hi..well ur title sounded like chiari and lo and behold u mention u do have it...too many drs dismiss chiari as being incidental finding and asymptomatic....all is incorrect,.

Too many drs look at the size of the herniation, instead of checking u for a CSF blockage and overcrowding....

Chiari symptoms do cycle so it makes sense how u say they dissipates.

We do have a chiari forum here on MedHelp, I invite u to join us - http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Chiari-Malformation/show/257?camp=msc
