Really strange episode involving left side of body

I have posted here before:  just quick history:  dx with FMS, migraines, B12 deficiency with neuropathy )feet & legs), high homochsteine level, etc.  Recently dx with cloudy corneas, atrophy in left optic nerve, and dry eyes. I am only 53 years old.I am in the process of requesting a new medical team at the VA as not getting medical I need.  Also have noticed the right leg is smaller then the left leg by 3/4" and that the left leg swells as much as two inches after sitting for two hours.

I had an weird incident that happened to me on the 12th that I am very concerned about.  It happened late afternoon and suddenly I had intense burning, tingling, and numbness of whole left side from the top of my scalp to bottom of my foot.  I went to bed shortly after it started as was every tired and feeling really off balance.  Had  residue of the tingling and burning in left side of: face, tongue and roof of mouth, rib cage, arm,  hip and leg.  Today I still have some patches of burning in left face, rib cage, arm, and leg.

It was suggested to me possible stroke, but I'm not sure as residue stayed with me for so long. Could it be something like Sj

Hi. Just out of curiosity..have you ever taken a quinolone antibiotic or Macrobid for any sort of infection prior to all the strange neurological symptoms happening? An antibiotic is what triggered my symptoms. Thanks. Sharon

Quinolones included: Cipro, Tequin, Avelox, Trovan, Levaquin, etc.

Hi there! I read your post! I am 44 yr old female and a heavy cigarette smoker! I need your input about something thats happening to me!! Well, it started like this: For a couple yrs now ive been feeling kinda strange. Ive developed this RUMBLE in my left ear and quite dizzy all the time (ENT just wrote it off as allergies)! My vision has got REAL bad this last 2 yrs, very, very blurry. Now, to make a long story short, this is what happened to me just last weekend. We went on a trip to Reno on a thursday, i was ok that day. But, buy Saturday night i was feeling REAL WEIRD! My daughter kept asking me WHAT'S WRONG with you mom? I told her, i didnt know, i just felt WEIRD! Dizzy!! Actually felt withdrawn!! YUCK!! The entire time we were there, i was the only one who POOPED OUT early and went to bed each night! Well, Sunday came and i knew something was WRONG WRONG!! I was having these electrical SHOCKS in my heart, tongue, and in my head! IT WAS HORRIBLE!!! Aslo, ive told my doctor before about the weird numbness that travels down my left side, they write it off TO ANXIETY! Well, i take xanax for the anxiety. I only take it at bedtime for sleep. Well, back to sunday! We were in our room packing our stuff and i felt real confused!!!! And these JOLTS kept on and on and on!! I thought i could just DIE!! I wanted to get home in a HURRY so i could climb into bed, take my xanax and NOT deal with this SHOCK THING!! Well, i drove home, which is about a 5 hr drive. I was so SILENT the whole way home! I just DEALT with the JOLTS!! We dropped the rental car off and thats when i got REAL agitated at my husband (because he said i was MEAN) I finally told him what was happening! And started crying like a baby! He was angry because i never said anything in Reno. Well, also, i get these HORRIBLE headaches as well. The SHOCKS or JOLTS have stopped, but the weird numb feeling on my left side NEVER goes away! Its like pins n needles, creepy, numb!! Also, seems that my left arm is weak or soemthing! STRANGE!!!! Does this sound like a mini stroke to you, possibly??? Any advice, or knowledge?

I've had very similar symptoms since brain surgery for a tumor, 6 years ago.  I get the "it's anxiety" answer all the time.  The truth of the matter is they just don't know and can't be bothered to investigate it any further.  Seizures have been ruled out by 8 doctors.  Anti-seizure meds don't do anything other than make me STUPID.  Anxiety meds don't work either.
Getting extremely fed up with  "Let's give this drug a try."

My answer...."You try it for a couple 2 weeks and let me know how it feels  and then I'll think about trying it."
P.S.  Doctor's get compesated from the drug companies for promoting their drugs.

Hello:

In 1999 I was in an accident where a car hit my in my driver door, doing about $3000. damage. I felt the impact and suffered a curviture of the spine and neck pain within two days following the accident. Of course after having many Chiropractic manipulations and Physical therapy, stuppidly I settled. I never let the case go to litigation because I have a bad heart and other physical problems and did not feel I could handle any more stress.

In Late January 2002 and again on February 13th I went to the ER by ambulance because of terrible back spasms that were happening 5 times a minute and I could barely breath with the pain that went from my left shoulder and radiated under by breastbone in the front stopping in the area of my heart. The hospital ruled out Cardiac and both times I was put on Morphine for the pain...nothing else could stop the spasms. Today after having an MRI of my neck on Feb.15th My Dr. called to say I have a buldging and a herniated disc in my c-spine. I am in so much pain and I am currently not taking any meds..everything I took either made me vomit or I was so dizzy i could not stand up. I have been doing nothing but resting. My appointment to see a neurosurgeon will be on Feb. 28th. If the surgeon suggests surgery in the c-spine..is this really dangerous? I must say I am really apprehensive. Would welcome any e-mails.

it is all in the timing.  As here in Arizona, I get on computer about 6 or 6:30am and try.  Correlate those hours to yours and try then.  Good luck

Hello.  I have episodes like this all the time.  I've had them for about 3 years now and I'm only 29 years old.  I just keep getting told it's anxiety.  I can't even get the docs to do any tests on me.  It drives me crazy.  I've pretty much learned to deal with it.  I'm going to go to another doctor when I get back to the States.  I'm in England right now b/c my husband is in the Navy and we are stationed here.  Could you, please, tell me how in the WORLD you were able to post a question on here.  I've never been able to.  Good Luck!!!!

The symptoms you describe are worrisome for a stroke as the onset was sudden and it was confined to your left side only. You may be thinking of a TIA or mini-stroke in which the symptoms are temporary and last less than 24hrs. An actual stroke means there was permanent damage to brain cells which often results in clinical symptoms that last over 24 hrs and are sometimes permanent. It is less likely that this is Sjogren's disease, but not entirely impossible. See your primary care doc ASAP and let them know what happened. You may need to have a CT scan (MRI is better) of your brain and be evaluated for stroke risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, and cholesterol disease. An aspirin a day may be indicated. Good luck
