Spinal Tap

So..my last post didnt get a lot of responses. If you want to read up about me please refer to those.

Well my neurologist order a spinal tap. I went into get it. I wasnt nervous at all. Anything to help figure out what is going on with me. I was told it would take 20 minutes. Well I was in there for nearly an hr and half. He couldnt get the needle in to get my cerberal fluid. He poked me in several spots..and he kept hitting bone. He didnt understand why there was bone where there wasnt suppose to be. My neurologist is a great doctor so nothing against him. Needless to say i left there and could barely walk..i even had a sweat ring around my neck. It felt like someone was taking a hatchet to my lower back.

I now need to go get a flouroscopy lumbar punture because he did not get anything. Has anyone had this done before? And if so could the same thing happen?

Thanks for your input. God Bless!

its always possible that the same thing could happen, but the MD will inject you with dye to visualize the biggest gap between the bones to get the csf, so he/she is much more likely to get it first try.  Before the MD was going off of touch and feel and the knowlege of anatomy in getting the needle in the right spot.  good luck!  It wont be nearly as bad as the first time!

Hi.Sorry to hear you had such a hard time with the lp. I just had one done 3 weeks ago, very similar to your experience.I ve had them done before with out this much trouble.I also had to  put up with the dr trying  3 times with out sucess and was going to quit but I knew I would never go back again so made him do it the  4th time and he finally got it. Im afraid I cant help  you with the flourscope but hey! look at what you have been thru already? It cant be much worse.Anyway, the best of luck with it! Cath278.
