hey i also have spots on my ankles and feet, theyre brown and red spots the size of freckles and some are bunched together so they look bigger, I am not on oxycodone or any narcotic pain meds, however i am on suboxone and have been for 3 years almost. Yeah i know subxone isnt the same as oxy codone but it is a powerful pain med to treat withdrawl and opiate addiction. I also have had my feet and ankles swell. Im really scared about this. I have seen ppl say that the spots could be luekemia or diabetes, hep c, or HIV and all of the above freaks me the F out! Idk if youll ever get this reply but if u do email me @ gt_24v_1995***@**** id like to talk more about these spots, maybe u can update me on your situation. Hopefully everything went ok. GL, by the way i should add that I am a recovering IV drug abuser so my situation could be totally different than yours, but there could be a common denominator in both of our problems. Im just looking for some ppl to relate to. I dont know any1 else that has this problem and i see tons of ppl on forums with the same problem and no1 has an answer, I was thinkin it could be some type of kidney problem from my opiate abuse/ suboxone for 3 years
I'm a Homeopath and was checking a remedy for a friend. She seems to be having similar problems of little brown spots almost like freckles on her feet. For her I will suggest Causticum in a higher potency. For different people, it is going to be different because homeopathy treats people.
i too am on methadone and am having this problem with the spots... also swelling. i have been on it for over a year now and the trouble started about eight months into the treatment.
Have you found out any new information since you've made your post? I'm trying a Vitamin that's suppose to help this kind of problem. Thanks!

i have these yellowish /brown spots as well... i have had them for around 5 yrs now... i have so many on my feet they look like blotches instead of spots.. i take acid reflux pills and have been for 10 plus years....the spots are pretty much over the tops of my feet and ankles.. some are on the insides of my lower legs as well...no spots are on the bottoms of my feet and i have seen a specialist.. he said not to worry about it, gave me a toipical creme with steroids in it and said to elevate my legs some.. i did.. they are still there and worse.. they do not hurt.. just spread...
I was having problems with my feet pulling up or when I would stretch them out they would draw down and I would have to straighten them with my hands. I also would wake up at night with cramps in the front of the bottom of my shins and would have to walk them out praying it would stop. Manesium gel (rubbing it in the lower part of my legs) has helped alot. You can do a magnesium challenge test . You must say challenge because even if you are defficient in magnesium the other test won't always reveal it. Hope this helps.
I too fractured my lower back when rear ended while stopped @ a traffic light, July,2007. Now Sept., 2010 have been on heavy pain meds since accident= Oxycontin, Oxycodone, Hydromorphone, Fentynil & more. Started on feet looking like not washed by toes and tops of feet, now is on ankles & starting to show on my shins. Lower legs have darker spots or maybe just hair. Starting to become concerned.
I saw you mention the pain meds and are they causing the spots, just thought I should say I did take pain meds for a while from samples at my doctors office and found them to not do a lot for me so I dont take em anymore but I had these spots before and still long after the pain meds so I think it is more about circulation then meds but could also be wrong as we are all different too in how meds and diseases work in our bodies. I tried lyrica and neurontin at the time but never oxycotin or methadone as some here are using.
I noticed these spots when the pain was really bad and they have come and gone as they will.
I forgot to mention I have a grey looking area on my feet just before the toes too and that has been there a long time now and anything that touches that area, even my own fingers feels like sand paper rubbing it, very sensitive.
I have neuropathy too and I have had the spots on the inside on both ankles. I even had at one time for months, little raises spots that would itch only till I scratched em once, and they would break and seep a small bit of clear fluid and then never itch again but would take a while to go away as more showed up, those are gone now but the reddish spots still appear, not itchy or raised, just there.
I also have bigger discoluorations on the outside of my left ankle, one is as big as a silver dollar and a couple of other smaller ones nearby that one, I am told that is cellular death or skin necrosis. Not sure what is best to call it, but it is pruple and ugly. No breakages in the skin, just an under skin coloring and they do tend to feel sore and sometimes itchy in socks.
Do you have Thyroid issues, or do you or have you worked with aluminum or any chemicals? Why I ask is there are more reasons they are finding that neuropathy can hit a person. You should look into what you have done over the years that might be causing it.
And the foot drawing inward,,,, Mine do that at night and I have actually woke with a charlie horse kind of effect where my foot was stuck on the inward position in bed, I used the other foot in a panic to push it out and in a hurry I thought I might not walk today. It did come back to its place but after several paniced attempts. No pain like a charlie horse would be in back of your leg, just stuck there. That scared me really bad, especially because I was hardly awake when it was happening.
I too have these freckle like discoloration on my feet and ankles. I do not take any medication. I have however suffered from circulation since my teens where it was diagnosed after complaining of leg pain at the age of 15. I am now 42, last year I had a baby and miraculously during the pregnancy the leg pain and discoloration disappeared. The baby is now 16 months and the "freckles" are back. The discoloration has gotten so bad this time around that I had a child ask me why I was purple. My concern is the rapid progression of the discoloration this time around and WHY the pregnancy made it better when the ob/gyn told me to expect greater pain while carrying my son, whom by the way was a 9lb 4 oz. healthy boy!
Weird, I know......it does not make sense to me nor my doctor. He just suggested resting and elevation BIG DEAL!! He also suggested support socks and stockings which do seem to alleviate the pain during my busy days but eventually you do need to take them off. Not to mention how uncomfortable they are.
I was diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) about seven years ago. I too have brown spots on my feet and ankles. It started with just a few spots on the top of my right foot. It continued to increase at a steady rate. Soon after I began noticing the spots on my left foot. Now there are so many brown spots on my right foot and ankle that they almost completely cover it. I was on neurontin for a long time. Eventually it irritated my stomach. Then my doctor put me on mscontin, topamax, lamictal, zanaflex, and cellebrex. I’m still on them and the spots are still continuing to worsen.
I am so glad that I looked this up too. I too am on methadone maintenance. I also have the brown spots (like freckles) all over my feet and ankles and calves and shins. My feet are extremely swollen and very tender. I had a job where I was also on my feet all day and it seems as though that is when it got real painful. I have quit my job because I couldn't take the pain any longer. I am now convinced that this is a direct result of the methadone. Methadone metabolizes in your body ( if you will, soaks in) which is a huge factor for the edema not only in my legs and feet but my hands as well. What can we do about this? Who can we get advice from? Do we need further testing done for any other potential ailments?
I read this page with the comments, as i was looking up information for what I had, which is numerous (and I do mean numerous to the point of covering much of the feet and ankle area) and trying to get info on anything. Then curiously the first two comments hit home, like the first two, I take methadone for pain as well, and b4 that oxycodone, it seems very very coincidental that all 3 of us seem to have something that seems to be very similiar. Maybe some pictures would be helpful to see if all 3 of us have the same condition, and if so, see somebody ''dermatologist" with the information we have. At the very least all of us would be better off checking out this info with someone who may have some insight into this.
i'm 57 years of age, two children, one living, one died at 8 month term status, that was 29 years ago. dad died with parkenson disease two yrs. ago, now alittle hstry on me: i'm overweight about 90 lbs., 5ft.tall, and have a broken back with a fusion of L4 and L5 and herrrington rods, and to top that off i also have damage done to my sciatic nerve, i also was in a car wreck three yrs. ago, and broke bunchs of major bones, and had a collasped lung, of all of these things, i seemed to heal very good. my back broke, 5 yrs ago. now, i take methadone 10 mgs 4 times daily, neurontin 800mgs 4 times daily, baclofen 10 mgs daily, paxil daily, plus i'm on oxygen all the time, and i take breathing meds. and high blood press. med, as of 6mths ago, the spots started coming on my feet and shins and i thought it was from the sun, but the swelling started and the hurt all the time and also hurt bad to the touch, now i'm also on lasix for the fluid in them and my legs, almost up to my knees, and it's doughy like, you can push it in with your finger and the indention will stay there for a long time, my lung doctor says the spots and swelling are from my medicene, and also my oxygen in my blood is very low, and my carbon output is high, and my lung doctor says its my meds. also, that is pain meds., i forgot to mention, that inbetween my methadone med. i can take percoset 7.5mgs as needed for back and leg and feet pain, that is due to my back and back main nerve,. my pain doctor says he doesn't beleive it's really due to my meds. so what does a body do? if i have problems sleeping i can take a klolonapin 1mg. if any of this makes sense, please let me know, by writing back. i'd like to know if you all have heard any thing different about the spots and swealing and pain in feet and legs.i'v also been told that they were due to harding of the arteries.
I'm a 41 yr old female with 5 children and take no medications and developed these spots 3 weeks ago. I've had no health conditions other than the fact that I'm overweight. I had 2 reddish spots appear on the top of my left foot, which began to get larger, then smaller spots appeared all over the tops of my feet and ankles. I also have some on the lower part of my legs. I've found that while I'm at home barefoot they appear less noticeable. I wear sneakers most of the time when out and found that extended periods of being on my feet, driving and walking seem to make them more noticeable. I've been told, not by a professional though, that they are most likely a circulation problem. If anyone has these same symptons taking no medications your insight would be appreciated.
I also have neuropathy and the redish brown spots all over my feet and ankles. Also within the last few months both shins above my ankles have become swollen and sore to the touch. My symtoms of neuropathy first started about seven years ago when we took our then five year daughter into the hospital to get her toncils out and she came out of it with brain damage. I cant even begin to tell anyone how devistating phisically and mentally this has been. About three weeks after we brought her home I started getting the sharp pains through my toes. It has progresed ever sence and many people including some doctors have said that the severe trama might have triggered this.
Hello, my name is Gary, I also have spots on my feet and until now I have not found anyone else who takes both pain medication (oxycodone) and neurontin, 3600mg daily. I have searched at length for reasons and until I read your letter I had found nothing which might have given an answer and maybe the reasons why. You and I both take pain meds and neurontin, could it be the mixture of the meds that may be causing our problems?
