Transverse Sinus Stenosis

Hi

I am 27 years old and have tinnitus in my right ear for going on three years.  It is the sound of my pulse in my ear non-stop all day everyday.  When I apply pressure to the right side of my neck, the noise stops.

I have had an MRI and MRA - normal.
I had a cerebral angiogram which found a "mild to moderate narrowing of the right transverse sinus".

What does this mean?  Based on this, are there treatments to make the "swooshing sound" go away?

PLEASE help!  Very frustrated with Canadian health care system...

I am also searching for answers for this awful noise.  Mine began in my right ear about 8 mos. ago, out of the blue.  It's worse at night and in the morning.  When I lay down during the day in the quiet, I don't hear it.  I'm wondering if, when blood pressure is lowest (at night and in morning) does the narrowed vein collapse even further, making the noise louder and when blood pressure if higher during the day, it pushes the vein open so you don't hear it as much.  Just a theory.  I'm always thinking of it.  Mine sounds like a wa, wa, wa, pulsing by my eardrum, which I can stop by pressure on my jugular on that side.

I had the same thing start this past year and am getting treatment.  Just wondering how you are doing with it after all these years since your post?  Are you better?  Did it go away?

I wish I would have seen your post much sooner. I have the exact same thing but on my left side. Its more or less something you will need to live with and get monitored regularly. I go to Johns Hopkins hospital (one of the best in the world) and they monitor my condition. I'm told its fairly rare but does happen. I was told the stent procedure is risky and usually doesn't work so it was best not to do it. I would make sure they check your cranial fluids to see if you have increased fluid in your brain which sometimes can cause the stenosis and also make sure you don't have an aneurysm which they should have seen on scans. I was told I was at a higher risk for a stroke, but I run 1/2 marathons still. Make sure you are in the best shape you can be...even if you are a little overweight that can also increase the pressure. I lost some weight and noticed the swoshing sound went down some.Best of luck!
