Upper body, upper leg muscle pain/weakness

About 6 months ago I started having pain in my upper arms and across the back of my neck and shoulders.  It was like a really bad stiff neck.  Approx. 3 months ago the same type pain has occurred in my upper legs as well.  In both areas, I am experiencing muscle weakness.  If I try to lift or pick up something over my head, it is very difficult.  After sitting or sleeping, the pain and stiffness is very bad.  After walking the pain and stiffness decrease.  I am a 55 year old female.  Any idea on what this could be?

I Agree with the MD. I have a Myopathy , don't wait and put up with the pain.
I get severe cramps which leaves my muscles sore in my chest , back , hands , lower legs , feet and Diaphragm . I have been treated with Prednisone . Specialists says "no medical reason why it works , but it does" . I have tried many medications over the last 40 years , but no others work the same . Prednisone has a few Side Effects , but not as many as some others .
The last experiment was Lyrica , think "very carefully" about this one , it didn't work with me , the Side Effects are extreme and "won't go away".

I would recommend that you please consult a neurologist in your area so that your neurological examination can be done. There is a possibility of a muscle disorder (myopathy). Alternatively, if you have ever experienced tingling or numbness, the problem could be at the spinal cord level. In either case, a thorough clinical examination is essential and unparalleled.

Does anyone in your family have (or had) such complaints ?
