Hi my dad has been having this problem for a while now.
In November 2016, he had tingling of the soles of his feet. First suspicion was diabetes, which they ruled out after a blood glucose test. Then he went through all sorts of nerve conduction studies, and everything was normal. Finally they came back with the same conclusion of diabetes. He has since lost 20kg and eats healthily. Just last Friday, he started feeling numbness in his thumb. Following that, on Saturday he went to play badminton and after that he started experiencing weakness of the whole arm as well as numbness in the right thumb, index finger and middle finger. On Monday, the weakness got so bad he couldn’t shave and couldn’t reach into his back pocket. Fast forward to Friday and he still has the weakness and numbness although not as bad as on Monday but still not getting better. We had an MRI brain done but it does not show a stroke.
I don’t see how this could be diabetic neuropathy as his readings are completely normal, in the ideal range in fact. We’ve taken so much care to do all the right things and we really don’t understand what’s going on. Please has anyone else had a similar experience? Does sensation and strength return?? Thank you so much.
