sunburn feeling on skin on upper body

can anyone help me???? im desperate!! my 13yr old daughter has been experiencing a burning sensation on her skin for 5 days now. it started out under both arms and on chest on day 1. day 2 it spread to shoulders and shoulder blades, day 3 it spread to hips, day 4 it had spread to right thigh as well as all the other places i have mentioned, plus on this day she also began to have neck and thoracic throbbing pain and it hurt to put her chin to her chest. took her ER at cooks childrens hospital where she under went a series of tests: 4 hour MRI which ruled out meningitis or any other infection, bloodwork, and urinalysis which ALL CAME BACK NORMAL. doctors could NOT GIVE me a diagnosis. i was there for 12 hours!! oh forgot to mention..on day 5 she called me from school saying she kept dropping things unintentionally, and she almost fell down some stairs twice. this when i decided to take her to emergency room. our ferret had nipped her and broke the skin and doctor suggested for her to get the rabies vaccination series just as precaution. i know its not rabies!! its something else!! but she started rabies series anyways just to on safe side. as of 7pm yesterday..she now has the burning(sunburn sensation throughout her entire upper body except her head and back pain has increased as well. advill and tylenol, which dr recommended for pain-DO NOT WORK for burning and barely work for her back pain. i dont know what else to do. i hate to see my daughter in pain. does anyone have any idea what this cud be?

Actually, no, I don't have an answer.  But I want to chime in here and say BIG thank you for your shares.   I thought I might be losing my mind.  I have had a severe burning skin sensation on my head, neck, shoulders and upper back...sometimes it will go around to chest. My back often feels wet or like prespiration is dripping down the side of my head.  I automatically feel to check to see if it is wet...never, ever...just that weird sensation.     The worst is the head...I mean some times it get so hot that I have to find something cold to put on my head.    Went to a Rheumatologist a few months ago and he tried me on Prednisone which did not help at all so I am off of it.   A pharmacist dr gave me hormone cream as mentioned by someone...applied on skin of thighs but I did not have any change after two months...I'll try that again as maybe I didn't give it long enough.  From all that I have read...the neuro doctors don't know what this is either!   Where am I to go to get help ... it is a mystery as all of my blood work is normal.   I do have Hashimoto's and the Levothyroxine levels this out.  3 years ago I had my hair fall out, then it grew back in to only fall out again last year.  This time it is total loss... Alopecia Universilis and have no hair on my body...this is when the head pressure, head aches and wet/sunburn sensitive skin started   I'm ok w/hair loss...I am NOT ok with this constant burning....driving me nuts!   Gosh, wish there was help somewhere??????   ***@****

I realize the original post was created in 2012 but maybe this will help anyway:

Last summer I started having the sunburned sensation like your daughter and I also had other abnormal pain, like pins and needles, among other things. It was excruciating. When I went to the doctor and then to the ER the only thing I was told is that it is Neuropathy, which doesn't really mean anything; it's too vague.

I wasn't getting the help I needed from the "regular" medical community so I looked for a naturopath. The naturopath suggested that my hormone levels be tested because he said my symptoms were similar to the symptoms of having a hormone imbalance. When he got the blood test back, the results indicated that my level of progesterone was almost non-existent.

He prescribed natural progesterone that is made at a compounding pharmacy. It comes in a cream and is put on my inner thighs before bed. (Note: don't use synthetic progesterone like the kind found in birth control pills, synthetic will make things much worse.)

After about 2-3 weeks my symptoms had a dramatic change; they were almost non-existent. I still have days where the pain comes back for a few minutes, but that is rare. If your daughters periods are irregular then this could suggest that she doesn't have enough progesterone in her body.

Also note that progesterone levels effect thyroid levels, which effects things like our metabolism (Does your daughter have an hypo or hyper thyroidism?). Checking hormone levels is a simple blood test, but it you have to ask to have these levels checked because they're not typically checked by doctors.

I hope this helps:)

So sorry to hear that your daughter is in so much pain.  Her pain sounds like it could be a neuropathy-type of pain. There are specific medications for this type of pain that are non-narcotic. Low dose narcotics for a 13 year-old, for a short period of time should not be out of the question either.

Finding out the cause of the burning and pain might take some time.  Until then, take her to the doctor again so she can get some pain relief.

Let me know how she is doing.
