Where is the plus side?

Hi. I hope some one can help me please. I am scheduled for surgery to fit a V-P shunt  for high pressure due to IIH or PTC. After all that i have read up about it Im not sure that I can see the up side to the surgery. What are the benefits? or the possitives? I have papilloedema in both eyes, very blurry vision and pain. Will this get better? It  seems people who have had it done still suffer from vertigo and nausea. And headaches! just a different kind.   Whats the difference between a high and low pressure headache?
I would be most grateful for any answer. Thank you. Cath278
