Dear Archie, welcome to the medhelp forum. Bell’s palsy is a temporary paralysis of one of the two facial nerves from trauma or damage due to infection, mostly viral in origin. Symptoms are variable and range from mild weakness to complete paralysis of one side of face. There can be drooping of an eyelid or corner of mouth, drooling of saliva or excessive tearing of eye. Treatment is aimed at reducing the inflammation with steroids, analgesics, and eye protection. Bell’s palsy usually has a good prognosis. Hope this information helps. You are most welcome with further clarification. Take care.
