any treatment for an old femoral nerve damage

In 1997 I had a combined hysterectomy and colon resection. The result of this surgery was a pretty severe femoral nerve damage in my right leg. Prior to the surgery I was very active in running, triathalons etc. After the surgery I was determined to get back to my previous level. It has now been 12 years and while I am able to participate in sports, I still have have neuropathy (I do not use meds to control pain), weakness in quadricepts and reduced reflex response. I have not seen a neurologist in several years.

I am curious, if there have been any new developments that could help me get to the next level. I've always felt that there was scar tissue on this nerve but do not know how to go about having this evaluated or if it is too late after this length of time

I've had good results doing the exercises that Brian Abelson demonstrates in his videos. I had results with sciatica
