archnoid cyst in the right frontal lobe of the brain

Hi,

my son is 11 years old.  Recently he was diagnosed wiht an Archnoid Cyst in the right frontal lobe of brain, and he experienced with seizures for the first time.  He is under the drug Dilantin.  How does the Archnoid Cyst effects his life.  Is there any dangerous, any loss in memory, or growth or something like so.  Please provide the answer?

I have been told I have a cyst on my frontal lobe, yet the doctors won't remove it, because they have said it would be more dangerous to remove it? Surely they have to remove it?

An arachnoid cyst is a fluid filled pocket in the lining of the brain. He was likely born with it - many are. Many grow at a pretty slow rate and so they can be found at any time after they give the person symptoms or when they have a scan for another reason.

Your son is having symptoms so his cyst needs to be treated. Make sure you get a surgeon who is experienced. As with any cyst - it should not just be drained, but part of all of the sac around it should be removed so it cannot re-fill. Once that is done, then the pressure on the surrounding brain tissue is off.

Symptoms that you mentioned - memory, growth etc, all depend on the mass effect - but as he should be able to get this treated soon - hopefully the seizures then should also resolve. Your doctor will be able to tell you more.
