atypical mental formen trigeminal neuralgia

I had a fall 5 years ago and hurt my L chin.  I had cortisone shots for 3 years to alleviate swelling and pain.  My doctor said he could not give more shots and I had surgery.  I now would take my life except I have a 17 son.  The pain is nonstop burning, electric shocks, numbing, like someone is cutting my lower gumline with a razor.  The pain is on both sides, and numbing too.  It has been getting worse and I have tried all the medications; neurontin, etc.  All of this happened after surgery "to shave a bony mass".  I had three courses of antibiotics for swelling and pain.  I am 57 and very depressed.  I cannot tolerate the pain and my blood pressure is 150/100 normally even with lysinopril.   I weigh 112 and I am 5'7".  I want to die.  Can anyone help me?  I even talked with Dr. Robert Nugent (neurologist) who said he cannot help me because he only does trigeminal neuralgia and not atypical neuralgia which affects both sides.  Please help.  donna

I have the same problem but for different reasons.  Mine pain is also only on one side.  I can't imagine how you feel with it on both.  You may want to try "Nerve Fix" a homeopathic whatever.  It won't fix it and, for me, is like putting a bandaid on a gaping wound but it does help.  You can buy it on line for about $17/bottle.  I go thru 2 bottles a month. It took a couple of weeks before it started helping so if you try it, give it time.  It helps more than some of the many prescripts that I am on.

Elavil has been my life saver if you haven't tried it.  I slept for the first year that I was on it, but I didn't care.  I wasn't in pain when I was asleep.

Try to find another neurologist that will help but in the mean time go to your GP or find a new one if your current one doesn't help.   The stress of having to deal with such a situation makes it worse, but what can you do?  My GP has been the most help of all the doctors that I have gone to.

I also take Cymbalta for both the depression and pain.  I guess it helps cause I'm still here.

do you have any answers about my question to Dr. Robert Nugent, neurologist? I am ready to take my life.

My suggestion would be to find a large teaching hospital with a Facial Pain clinic.  These doctors spend all their time dealing with Facial Pain and may be able to help you.
