burning pins and needles muscle twitching for almost 3 months now

Hello I am a 37 year old female who was at one time pretty active with gym and other things at the beginning of February I started having shooting pain down the backs of my legs and just unbelievable pain.. I thought this would only last for a couple of days.

I can sleep now at night but here 2 an a half months later I have pins and needles, burning in the back of my leg around my knee cap, up and down my shin bone, little shocks, muscle twitching, mostly in my left leg..  I did have an MRI which showed that I had a 2mm disc protrusion with annular tear at my L5- S1 region..

I went to a chiropractor and he administered tests that were supposed to show if I had sciatica or not..  I can lift my leg up from laying down..

as I write this I am being "shocked" my muscle feels like it went into a wave involuntarily.. I am completely at my wits end and depressed nothing has helped.. I don't know what's going on.. if anyone can help me I would appreciate it.

Thank you for your question. Although without being able to examine you I can not offer you the specific advice on diagnosis and treatment that you need, but I would try to provide you some relevant information about your health concern.

It sounds like sciatica but needs doctor’s evaluation before any confirmation. Sciatica is a set of symptoms including pain that may be due to compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve, which may occur due to disc hernia, disc degeneration or spondylolithesis. So, the treatment modalities also range from anti-inflammatory, physiotherapy, non-surgical decompression or surgical decompression. But, surgical modalities may have 50% chances of relapse of pain. Before opting for surgical procedures, you should evaluate both the pros and cons. Hope this helps.

Glad to hear you're going to see another doctor. You need to get MRIs done.

It depends on what's causing all the sx as to how long it'll last.

I even went to the doctor and had a straight leg test and she said it wasn't sciatica because I could lift my leg straight without aggravating any pain.. I have tried antiinflammatory, neurontin, baclofen an inversion table, exercises..  its already chronic it doesn't come and go it's always there sighs..   I am really tired of this..  I am going to try a different doctor thanks for the answers.. How long will this last?  Tiffany

Hi Tiffee

This sounds almost unbearable. When you say nothing has helped, what have you done? Did you get any medical advice on how to treat the disc protrusion and the annular tear? If not, I should say that you need to be consulting your GP and/or an orthopedic specialist asap. Get this injury treated before it becomes chronic!

Let us know what happens, ok?
best wishes
