concussion after one week

My twelve year old is one week out from a concussion and in severe pain.   Is that normal?  What level of pain should I expect?  Pain medication does not help and actually seems to make it worse.  She's rating her pain at a 9 on a scale of 1 - 10.

Hi,
It is sad that your child has to go through all this?
What was the scan report earlier and how was she diagnosed as having concussion.
It is normal to have pain after 7 days unless and until it is not due to some pathological state. I think you should get a brain MRI to rule out any cause of concern. I think you should consult a pain management specialist and follow his instruction.
She needs more of tranquilizers along with pain killers.
Bye.

Hi.

The duration and intensity of symptoms from a concussion would depend on how severe the initial injury is.

What caused your daughter's concussion? Has your daughter been subjected to an MRI or CT scan? There are other causes of pain after an injury that should be looked out for and brain imaging would be helpful in ruling these out.

Since the pain is severe, I would advise you to bring your daughter back to her physician to reassess her condition.

Good luck.
