Vertigo, Twitching, Weakness, Pain, Memory Loss, etc.

In April of 2007 I took a drug called Reglan for a digestive issue. Within 4 hours I was having side effects that over the last year have not gone away and developed into constant vertigo, muscle shaking and weakness, memory loss, grogginess, pain, adrenial rushing, reflux, twitching, etc. Prior to this I was a healthy and active 43 year old.

I have been to 20 doctors and a hospital in Mexico, had every test in the world, all are negative. I have detoxed and 6 neurologists have told me that I have no neurological damage. The last doctor thought that it was biochemical, and I needed to "reset" my nervous system. I tried taking an extremely low dose of Noratriptoline (10mg) and after four days thought my brian was fried and I had to stop.

Looking for someone who has had anything like this and gotten better -how?

Hi there I am having the same issue in 2023. I had a severe reaction to IV dose of reglan causing seizure, hallucinations, loss of bladder and bowel control, vomiting, temporary paralysis of my legs. I still have so many symptoms and have been disabled and bedbound since.

Did you ever find anything that helped you and have you recovered?

Thank you. I understand. I saw a neurologist who specailizes in Dystonia because I knew the connection between Reglan and Tardive Dystonia and he told me I do not have Dystonia. I only took one dose (one pill) of Reglan. But I believe that you are suggesting that I can still display the dystonic symptoms from extrapyridamal syndrome, without having the disorder and that the recommended drugs above may bring me back to normal status by counter acting the reglan effect, i.e. scrabbling of my neuroreceptors ?

Hi, in extra pyramidal syndrome usually dystonia is due to increased cholinergic activity in nervous system, hence anti holinergics do have a role e.g trihexyphenidyl. For more information visit website http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trihexyphenidyl

Thank you for responding. I was taking Phynergin for Nausea, Tylenol Sinus at night and Bactrim. I have seen 6 neurologist who feel I have no permanent damage but can not figure out how to help me. I know how antihistaminics work, but how do anticholinergics work on these type of symptoms? Thanks for you insight.

Hi, were you on some other medications also? Reglan can cause extrapyridamal syndrome which can be treated with anti histaminics or anticholinergic drugs, it is rare for this drug to cause permanent neurological deficit.
