extreme burning sensation all over my body-I am a 29 yr. old Asian female!

I have experienced this in the past and was diagonosed with UTI.  The UTI was treated and the symptoms went away at the time.

It's kinda confusing and frustrating to have all the symptoms again but not have a UTI or any other diagonosis.  I have seen a neurologist and he's treating me for my migraines and post traumatic depression with Amytryptiline and I do take Maxalt-mlt on the onset of my migraine.  He did the cervical and thorasic MRI but there were no abnormalities observed (done a year ago).  He also did an EMG.  They came out clean as well.

My Symptoms:
The sensation of extreme burning starts out in my upper mid back and radiates to my other extremities.  It gets worse during the night, my whole body gets very hot and the burning sensation pretty much keeps me awake at night. As much heat I feel I am not sweating at all.  My internist requested various tests on my blood including Lyme disease, Rheumatoid factor, HIV..but all of these were negative.  These tests have been repeated several times, and the results are still negative.
Recently , I did develop dry cough that didn't go away after taking my allergy and cough medications.  I do feel some pain on the right side of my chest, but not that extreme.  I am a non smoker but may have been exposed to second hand smoke intermittently.  I work in the lab and have been exposed to chemicals like Formalin, Glutaraldehyde, silicone and some enzymes like alpha-chymotrypsin.

I do suffer from Psoriasis and frequent constipation (almost all my life). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

My burning/stinging started immediately after a tetanus shot two years ago and persists today, but slightly diminished.  Stress definitely affects the sensation.  My diagnosis is "autoimmune peripheral neuropathy."  The burning is at different levels.  My skin feels as if I am sunburned, and then it radiates deep into the muscle tissue, primarily legs and shoulder/arms.  I also experienced an ice-pick stabbing sensation, but that has also diminished. I'm taking a small dose of Neurontin and depend more on Motrin and hot baths to reduce the pain.  Vaccines are often the cause, but overlooked by doctors.
Thanks

It would be interesting to see if you could objectively document or measure your body temperature when you feel the sensation of burning to see if there is indeed a rise in temperature.  If there is a fever, this may be a systemic problem that requires an infectious disease workup. Another possiblity is thyroid disease, which can cause heat intolerance.  However, I'm sure your PCP has checked for that in the extensive blood testing you've had. Also, the hypothalamus in the brain regulates temperature and if there is a problem there like a brain tumor, this can cause body temperature fluctuations. This can be easily evaluated with an MRI of the brain. But again, there are usually other abnormalities on the exam and something should have been picked up already. Finally, sometimes depression can manifest itself with physical or neurological symptoms. Although it may or may not be the cause in your case, there is a possibilty that it may be exacerabating the problem if it's not being adequately treated. Try measuring your temperature and keep a log. If you have a real fever (we usually say over 100.4), then further evaluation may be needed. Good luck.

Just a thought but have any of u had ur gallbladder checked or been tested for gerd? I had some of the same symptoms and turns out I have gallstones and possible gerd. Also gallstones can cause symptoms of gerd, so dnt let a dr tell u its gerd without having gallbladder tested. Hope this helps a lil.

Was really curious about your post. I too have had horrible burning sensations, mostly lower and mid back, then up to my neck area. I also work in a lab at a hospital, so that caught my eye on your post. I have had all the normal tests, ana,ra lupus, cbc, lipids, lymes, tsh, etc, and all were fine. The only thing I have done differently is I started on Zoloft about the same time the burning started. My doc said it would have nothing to do with these symptoms, but after 6 months of burning with no relief, I have weaned myself off the Zoloft. I haven't had any in my system now for 3 weeks, but MUCH to my dismay, I still have the burning. AAARRRGGGGHHHH!!! I'm so frustrated. I don't think working in the lab has anything to do with it because I have worked there for years with no problems. Was just wondering if you have had any luck finding out anything. Thanks  Pam

Just read your message.  Hope you have found a cure for your (our) problem.  If you have Please let me know of it.  I have this sting and burning over my body also.  Have been told that it is Diabetic Neuropathy, alleric reactions to whatever, sinus, depression, psychosis, you name I have been treated for it.  NO RELIEF.  I would like to hear from every one that is having this problem.  Maybe we can combine resources and finally get relief if not a direct cure for whatever this is. I will respond to all. I really need help.  I have had this condition for 9 years.
