head twitching

I have a child who is almost 7 yrs old and was hit in the front part of his head with a cordless phone and is now experiencing uncontrollable head twitching.  The cat scan showed no visible damage and were referred to a neurologist.  ER doctor says the twitching may not be from the phone but from something else and it is strange timing.  Let me know what you think??

Hi.

How would you describe the head twitches (what happens)? How severe are the head twitches? How often do they occur? Is there any progression in his symptoms (are they worsening)?

Because he will be flying, it would be best to have him medically and neurologically cleared for that. It is always better to be on the safe side and have him checked out than to miss any potentially serious condition.

If you can have him checked out earlier, it would be for the best.

The symptoms occured after the injury.  It has been about a week now.  The head twitching is the only symptom and only when standing or upright not when laying down.  We do not have an appointment with the neurologist until early Janurary.  Do you feel we should have him seen sooner??  He and his older brothers were planning on flying to St. Louis next week to visit grandparents.  Should we allow him to fly??  Please advise.

Hi.

When did your child got hit in the head? How long from the time of injury did the twitchings start? Were any of these twitchings present prior to the injury? Are there any other symptoms? Were there any symptoms of concussion after the injury such as headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and slurred speech?

Although the ER doctor might think that the twitching may not be from the recent injury, if there were no symptoms related to this prior to the event, I would be more inclined to think that there is indeed a relation of the injury and the head twitching, especially if the twitching presented itself within a few hours to a day from trauma.

You should have your child immediately evaluated by a neurologist to determine if any neurological abnormality secondary to trauma is causing the symptoms.
