horrid pain on left side of upper back

I have had significant pain in and around my trapuizius (sp) muscles from inbtwn my shoulder blades to the left  of my shoulder blade and upward to right below the top of my left shoulder. It moves to encompass the entire upper t-region of my shoulders, neck, and shoulder blades. I do not have any real pressing issues with weakness, pain, or tingly sensations in my arms, hands, or fingers. I don't believe its nerve related I just don't know what it could be besides a trapizious (sp) muscle inflammation. the pain goes very deep, and it is debilitating. I have an appt with a chiro on wed to see about this. In the meantime, if anyone else has experienced anything similiar, id love to hear what you've been diagnosed with. I was operating a skid steer doing snow removal and was in second gear doing about 35-40km/hr when I hit a manhole cover and came to a sudden and violent stop! When it happened it felt like my arm had been broken but subsided and now I am experiencing severe pain at the bottom of the left shoulder blade and shoots up into my neck. This happened 5 days ago and pain is not reducing or going away. Any ideas?

I am experiencing the same pain and I am sure it is related to my job because it gets progressively worse as my work days progress.  I am a hairstylist and those muscles are always in use.  I was wondering if you have found any relief.
