Hi there,
I ran across your post and was hoping you may could help me ? My granddaughter is quote "perfectly healthy" and we noticed her having absense seizures - starring off and getting limp.. Well they of course put her on trileptal and she is only 6 months old. This is weighing so heavy on our hearts as she is such a happy baby. We are afraid that giving her this medication will alter her learning abilities. She doesnt like the medicine as it makes her tired and cranky. She is not her happy self... Can you tell me how the medication worked for you? I am praying that your son have had GREAT results and he is happy and healthy!
I hope that your son is better now. It is so interesting to know that food can influence in seizures I did not know that. Where did you find that? if you have websites to share about this I will really appreciate it. Your son will be ok do not worry he is blessed to have you.
Thank you for the kind words Romina. I will pray that your daughter gets better.
As for my son, yesterday we went to get his 3 day EEG aparatus plugged to his head. What a nightmare. He doesnt seem to mind it as long as the tech isnt pushing on his head.
I'm still rather frustrated with the neurologist. It seems as though he's not looking into any possible causes. There were a lot of circumstantial things that happend that I believe could have caused his seizures.
1. He was constipated or withholding his stool for 3 days ( journals.cambridge.org/production/action/cjoGetFulltext?fulltextid=336106 )
2. My wife, who is exclusively breast feeding, had been drinking large amounts of coffee.
3. She had been giving my son water, which I believe, diluted his system and he wasnt getting enough vitamins/nutrients.
4.The night before the worst day, he was fed solid food. Iwas green beans, which people in my family are alergic to. He actually vomited.
Less than 15 hours after I gave him his first dropper full of vitamins, his seizures have stopped completely. At the time of his last seizure my wife gave him his first dosage of Trileptal. But from what I have read about it, is that it doesnt even do anything for 2 to 3 days.
When I mentioned those things to the neurologist, he completely discounted them. He said that he never heard of anyone having a seizure because of caffeine. Which is kind of strange, because when I looked up "foods that can cause seizures" caffeine was one of the first items on the list.
I'm a mechanic, so by nature, I look for the cause of the problems. I dont just treat the symptoms, as I feel this particular doctor is doing. I am very concerned for the well being of my son.
-GreaseMonkey.
Me daugther started to have fibrel seizures one year ago she is under keppra. Now she has another type of seizure called atopic seizures, she is under 2 medications now. "I think that your son needs the medication to control the seizures because without medication they can increase. I will keep you son in my prayers.
Also, is there anything I should ask my neurologist?
Btw, Im also taking him in to 2 other hosptials for a second and third opinion.
