insight on nerve conduction reaction

Hi, I had a emg yesterday as one of the tests for my plethora of random symptoms. I won't get the results back until next week, but had a question in the mean time I thought someone might know about. When the nerves in my right arm were stimulated my whole torso convulsed with the shocks , as well as my arm... Is that normal!? What does that mean? Also, within an hour after the needle part my arm and hand clenched up ( which happens from time to time) but it was so tight it hurt and was completely unusable for 2 hrs. Any insight would be appreciated thanks.

Thanks for the reassurance... Been pretty stressed having all these tests to figure out what's going on with me... Then having to wait for results is always fun..glad to hear that can be a normal reaction. It only did it during the first round of stimuli to my right arm and I don't normally have issues with that part of my body, except sometimes when I'm trying to go to sleep i will get body tremors..pretty sure that's pretty normal too though

Many people, even on this board, have had similar reactions to having an EMG/NCS done. Being that the body works by electrical pathways and chemicals, it isn't surprising that interrupting or adding to them with more electric pulsations could lead to some further temporary spasms and pain.  If it continues to be a problem, I'd be sure to mention it to the neurologist and or your primary MD.  Good luck!
