jaw pain

For several years, I have experienced severe jaw nerve pain.  The pain is located very deep in the jaw behind my teeth, almost in my neck.  I have been to several dentists, had xrays and exams and they cannot find a problem.  I liken the pain to eating a lemon....that piercing feeling you get in the jaw ...only multiplied about 50 times.  This is very painful and aspirin, muscle relaxers, pain medication etc does not relieve it at all.  Lately, it has been happening more often and to the point of tears.  I have very good oral health and at my wits end with this issue.  Please help!!!

The past couple months, I have noticed that I wake up several times through the night biting my tongue on the opposite side of where I experience the pain.  Can this be a symptom of the TN?  Can you tell me what specific type of doctor to seek out for a rapid diagnosis?  God Bless you for providing people with your wisdom for free.  I have searched forever and I feel like a weight has been lifted from me just by hearing that there is a possible answer for what I have.  My dentists and doctors all say there is no problem.  Thanks again.

How are you? Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a neuropathic disorder of the trigeminal nerve that causes episodes of intense pain in the eyes, lips, nose, scalp, forehead, and jaw. The condition can bring about stabbing, electric shock-like pain from just a light wind or a finger's glance of the cheek.TN usually develops after the age of 40. To confirm the diagnosis, other conditions that can cause facial pain  such as infection of the jaw or sinuses,  fibromyalgia, migraine, Bell's palsy and other types of nerve disorders must be ruled out. Treatment for the condition varies and may include medication, complementary therapies, surgery, and a combination of these methods.
