mri result

my husbands mri result shows spots on the 6th nerve.  He complains of periodic loss of sensation on left leg to the point where his foot drags.  He also is complaining of double vision for the past year and has a history of night sweats that i would have put down to a stressful career in the past. He has an appt with an neurologist on thurs, what does  this sound like?

Hi there.

The spots on the 6th nerve may be a sign of demyelinating diseases such as MS.  It can also be brought about by infections such as tuberculosis, though this can be very rare.  The symptoms on the legs may not be related to this 6th nerve spots, however, the double vision can be attributable to the problem with the 6th nerve since this nerve controls one of the muscles attached to the eye.  I agree with a neurologist consult so that he can be fully evaluated.  The neurologist may request for additional studies such as spine MRI, or nerve conduction studies to ascertain the cause.

Regards and God bless.
