my daughter is 15 months old and based on rmn, she was diagnosed with" absence of left transverse sinuse, no signs of thrombosis". the rmn was done after having 2 seizures ( 40seconds lasting) following a digestive disorder. Now she is in hospital following treatment and several analysis to identify the virus responsible for this episode. What does it means this absence? what are the consequences for her further development and life?
The absence of left transverse sinus could be due to blockage of the sinus, usually due to a thrombus. The other possibility is that the transverse sinus is absent since birth. Hence to differentiate between the two causes, a non contrast Brain CT is performed. Presence of sigmoid notch sign on this CT indicates a congenitally absent sinus. Since no signs of thrombosis were seen in your daughter’s case, probably it was absent since birth.
If the blood flow is compensated through other channels, as is usually seen, it should not pose any problems. However, since she is already suffering from seizures, this aspect needs to be looked into. Please ask your doctor regarding this. Take care!
