orbital pain-facial tingling

For the past 2 to 3 months I have been experiencing minor pain around the orbital bone of my eye.  Almost like a soreness rather than pain.  Also pain just below the temple (left side of face).  My family doctor has me on anti-inflmatory meds.  I also summplement with a couple of Advil a day.  Sometimes, meds help, sometimes not.  As the day goes by, especially at night, my left eye is irratated, blurry.  Per my eye doctor I am using artificial tears.  This seems to help the eye symptoms a little.  Also tingling, numbness in the left cheek, a symptom I have been experiencing for 3 to 4 years.  Had brain MRI two years ago, no problems found.  Otherwise feel fine:  walk 3 to 4 miles a couple of times per week, bike 15 to 20 miles a couple of times per week, weather permitting.  59 yrs. old male.  Note:  chewed nicorette gum heavily for about 10 years.  Have been off of it for about 3-4 years.  Thanks

Hi Rick,

Sorry to read about your pains.

Have you looked into chronic sinusitis? A number of the things you mention make me think of that. On and off pain, more pain at night, irritated eye, numb cheek etc. One of the problems with chronic sinusitis is that if the infection has been there for a longer period of time it stops responding to medication, also antibiotics etc.

More information on it can be found, among other sites, on Wikipedia:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinusitis

Should you think it is worth looking into a good ENT can tell you whether you have it or not, probably after having made a CT scan.

I hope this may help you, best of luck.

Steven
