poor circulation / pinched sciatic nerve

Besides having surgery and doing stretching exercises, does anyone know what else I can do to relieve the pressure on a nerve from a herniated disc. I herniated my SI about 5 months ago and the nerve has been pinched ever since--numb in left leg to my pinky toe. Do I have permanent nerve damage since so much time has past? Someone said Magnesium supplements are really good.

I haven't had surgery, but have considered it many times to relieve the pinched nerve..... do you recommend it?
