second opinion on Brain surgery

Patient Age : 6 years
Gender : Female

Below are CT scan reports.Doctor is suggesting to operate.Does it really needs?

MultiSlice Spiral CT Scan of Head (Plain Study)
CT scan of the head was done using 5mm thickness slices for posterior fossa and

10mm thickness slices for supratentorial region.Slices were viewed at brain and

bone window settings:

Report: June 2,2015
Acute EDH of maximum thickness 1.7 cm is seen in RT parietal region.No

significant mass effect is seen.No obvious midline shift noted.

Mild diffuse cerebral oedema is seen.

Small amount of soft tissue oedema is seen in Lt high parietal region.

Both cerebral hemispheres appear normal in attenuation pattern.
The basal ganglia,thalami,midbrain,pons and cerebellum appear normal.
Ventricular system,basal cistern & cortical sulci appear effaced.
There is no shift of midline structures.
Bony structures of cranial vault are unremarkable.


Impression:
1) Acute EDH of maximum thickness 1.7 cm is seen in Rt parietal region.No

significant mass effect is seen.No obvious midline shift noted.

2) Mild diffuse cerebral oedema is seen.

3) Small amount of soft tissue oedema is seen in Lt high parietal region.

Report: June 4,2015
As compared with previous/above CT scan report June 2,2015
Present CT scan shows :

1) Mild increase in the size of right parietal EDH noted.Maximum thickness at

present measures 2.2 cm

2) Cerebral edema is mildly reduced.

3) Rest of the findings are as per previous CT scan.

Wow.  If it was my child, I'd want the surgery especially after finding out the hematoma has grown in size.  I'd just worry about it growing big enough to cause enough pressure to shift the brain from its normal position.

I hope you find answers to your questions and I sure hope the little one recovers quickly.
