Hi, I"ve just been diagnosed with pseudo tumor cerbi and my symptoms sound alot like yours the intense headaches, blurred or double vision, i had a spinal tap and my opening pressure was 34. Ive been put on the medication diamox and its hell the first week but really seems to help with keeping the cerebal spinal fluid down which relieves some of the pressure. I am told that my illness is most common in women in thier early 30's to mid 50's and are usually overweight, but ive broken the mold im a thin 21 year old female. I will be getting a shunt put in my spine my pressure just doesnt seem to stay down but good luck to you and i hope this helps!
Hi, How are you now. yes, its better to ger a MRI done to know the cause and get second opinion of a neurophysician. In general if your symptoms is worsening it may be due to effects of raised intracranial pressure so seek neurophysician evaluation as early as possible.
Take care.
A reading of >20mm at lumbar puncture opening is considered high. I think normal is around 13. I would agree with mkor and would ask about "Benign Intercranial Hypertension", "Idiopathic Intercranial Hypertension" or "Pseudotumor Cerebri". Different names for the same condition. Often accompanied by pulsatile tinnitus (ringing in the ears that pulses with your heart rate), Papalloedema (swollen optic nerve) and is most often found in overweight females aged 20-50. But it does occur in others and without the presentation of swollen optic nerve.
Best Wishes,
Rick
Have they suggested benign intracranial hypertension?
I have to agree, if you have not already had one - get MRI's done now of your head and spine. Definately also get your eyes checked for glaucoma. What blood tests have they done? Are you seeing a physician or a neurologist?
What about a CT scan of sinuses?
IT is a long process and its not going to be quick & easy to diagnose. Many here in the forum have been searching for answers for a long time. Its been 5mths for me also with a similar path to yours. I had a process of elimination. Test, after test, after test. I went and got my eyes checked thoroughly, had my sinuses checked, had MRi's and a lumbar puncture all were normal so Im sorry I cant help you with the spinal tap results there.
One thing I know is you have to keep searching until you get answers. Definately push your case and if your not already seeing one, get a referal to a specialist who can order more specialised testing.
Good luck
hi,please get yourself investigated with MRI head and spinal cord, blood tests along with fundoscopy and tonometry(for eye examination) to rule out the cause.
Please consult Neurologist for the same.
As there are numerous causes for the symptoms shown by you, like raised intracranial pressure, spinal cord tumor, glaucoma(raised intraocular pressure) etc, proper evaluation is must.
Good luck and take care!
