test finding

These is what says on brain mri w/o contrast radiology report that was done(5 weeks after accident) because of auto accident injury "Clin Imp:R/O STROKE. Clinical information:evaluate for stroke.Parameters:stroke protocol.   There is no evidence for acute ischemic event. The brain parenchyma is normal in appearance. There is no mass or mass effect. The ventricles are normal in size and position.IMPRESSION:NORMAL STUDY     What does "There is no evidence for acute ischemic event" mean and would a radiologist have written on report if there was an old (chronic) stroke? Would old strokes since birth have shown on this type of mri and would they be written on mri report if found? Would angioma and hemangioma be found on on this type of brain mri and would radiologist have written on report if there was any evidence of them?Thank you

Acute ischemic event just means sudden deprivation of oxygenation to the brain resulting in stroke. Old strokes can be seen easily on an MRI and usually are commented on here at the Cleveland Clinic. Any vascular malformation such as an angioma can also be easily seen and again, are usually commented on by our neuroradiologists. But I can only speak for our facility. GOod luck.

I just love those words, "normal study". You should too.

If my memory serves me right, acute ischemic event is just the medical jargon for a stroke.  Congratulations, it looks like you are in the clear.
