tingling

I have been experiencing tingling on and off for about 3 months.  It comes and goes in my face (cheeks, lips, even toungue), shoulder and arm.  Almost always seems to be on the left side.  Any ideas?  I know MS has tingling listed as one of the symptoms, but does it come and go?  Thanks!

Hi Ripcat and Andrea's Mommy.  I have a 1 year old and have just started feeling tingly all over.  I went in to see my eye doc because I was having weird stuff with my left eye (no pain) and then he ordered an MRI which showed 3 very small lesions.  Soon after that I started getting pins and needles on my left side, which spread to my right.  I have seen a neurologist/MS specialist and she is thinking it might not be MS because of the small number of lesions...  Also my spine MRI and my spinal fluid (had lumbar puncture/spinal tap) were clean.  But this tingly sensation won't go away and if it isn't MS I can't imagine what it could be.

Hi if any one has any suggestions please email me. ***@****.  I have unexplained burning/tingling in head arms legs mainly at night.  I also have some weird Blood pressure and pulse sensations.  Have had a complete work-up at the neurologist (CAT, MRIs, EEG, EMG, SSEP) all normal.  I do have bad neck problems and everyone keeps saying it is stress/anxiety.  I don't agree.  Help

Hi Samije,

I have also had strange neuro symptoms since the birth of my daughter- 1 year ago.  I basicly have the same pricking, burning tingling sensation.

I recently went to see a environmental doctor in Charleston, SC.  He thinks the symptoms may be caused by the environment. When you get a chance email me the details of your situation, maybe we can compare notes and figure this out.  My email is ***@****

I forgot to ask you in my last question, but have you seen a rheumatologist? After I get some of these other doctor bills paid, I think I may go see one. I`m just glad everything has been normal so far, and thankful to God for it. Well take care...And good luck!!!

Hi Samije. Thanks for writing. Yes, my problems began 9 1/2 mos. ago after my daughter`s birth. Mine are mainly sensory too, but I also have fasiculations and tendon tightness in the ankles. I also have sensitivity to cold and heat. Symptoms are worse after exercise and in the mornings after long sleep. I had an MRI 7 mos. ago of brain and C-spine which were normal. Evoked potentials - normal, and nerve conduct. test- essentially normal. 2 Neuros said they doubted MS. I`m to scared to get a spinal tap. When are your symptoms worse?? Any eye pain?? I have eye pain sometimes. Seen an eye doc when it began, he said eyes looked normal. I have no diagnosis. My next step is to have a follow up w/ current neuro. The only thing I know to do now, is just let him monitor me, and demand brain and spine MRI`s once a year.... Keep me posted. Thanks....

Hi.  I started to experience strange symptoms several(4) months after my daughter's birth.  My daughter is now over a year old, and I still have symptoms.  My symptoms are basically sensory - tingling, burning, prickly, stabbing, tightness in muscles everywhere and migraine headaches.  I had an MRI, spinal tap, Visual evoked potentials and an EEG.  The MRI showed 9 spots - neuro said likely due to history of migraines and the spinal tap showed high protein (81).  Again, neuro said not to worry - there could be a million different reasons for this.  My last neuro exam - one week ago- was completely normal.  Next step, I am seeing another MS specialist at Yale soon.  Also, my symptoms began after I returned to work and there are others in my building who are having bizarre health problems this year.  Collectively, we are checking into the possibility of neurotoxicity.  There is a specialist in this field named Dr. Raymond Singer who works out of N.Y.C. and New Mexico.  I am certain that I will eventually end up there.  My current neuro is actually investigating the possibilty of an environmental trigger along with a team of environmental/occupational specialists.  The symptoms of environmental illness are similar to those experienced by people with MS.  Please keep me posted on your research progress.  Good Luck!!!!

Vague tingling that comes and goes has been associated with MS, but certainly not all patients with tingling have MS.  If it always seems to be on your left, that helps to localize it somewhat to the right part of the brain if it indeed is neurologic in nature.  If the tingling persists, gets worse, or is accompanied by other symptoms such as left sided weakness, headache, visual changes, etc... consider getting it checked out by a neurologist.  Good luck.

When did your symptoms start? Have you had any tests done? If not, you should see a neurologist and ask for an MRI of the brain and maybe spine. I`ve had tingling, twitching and numbess for 9 mos. which started after my daughter`s birth. I`ve had lots of tests, and no diagnosis.
