Thank you for such a quick response. I figured I would recieve the answer that you gave. I have discussed the issue with my current neurologist and was not given any help. I have been very unhappy with my current doctor's care, concern and knowledge. I recently switched doctors due to my previous neurologist moving out of the area. I am in the process of locating a different neurologist in my area.
Again, thank you for your quick response.
Hi Gwendolyn,
The numbness and sharp, stabbing pain in your legs are actually part of the symptoms of multiple sclerosis. Multiple sclerosis is a nervous system disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. It damages the myelin sheath, the material that surrounds and protects the nerve cells. This damage slows down or blocks messages between the brain and the body, leading to the symptoms of MS. Aside from muscle weakness and sensations of pricking or pins and needles, visual distubances, trouble with coordination and balance and thinking and memory problems may also be observed.
What medications are you presently taking for MS? Are there other signs or symptoms present? There are a variety of medications that are used for MS. However, it would be helpful if you discuss this with your doctor for proper evaluation and to determine which management is suited for you. Many of these drugs have potentially serious side-effects especially in combination with other medications.
Take care and keep us posted.
