Nothing to cheer about: Team USA cheerleaders cover up for Team Iran
Team USA kicked Iran’s *** in the basketball world championships. The final score was the United States 88, Iran 51.
But on the political correctness scoreboard the score was Iran 1, USA 0 because the Team USA dancers were required to wear long pants in what was called a “nod to Muslim law.”
The Associated Press uncovered the cover-up:
[In] a nod to the Iranian supporters in Istanbul — which included minister of sports Ali Saeedlou earlier in the tournament — dancers were ordered to cover up for their performances during the game. Islam prohibits women from exposing their skin in public, and Iranian officials had turned their backs when the dancers performed in earlier games.
The dancers wore long pants Wednesday.
This, of course, is in sharp contrast to the way the Obama administration normally drops its pants for the Iranians.

I by no means am the authority on the subject, but have come up with an idea that might satiate your needs about the "pussyfooting" around in regards to Islam. There's quite a few facets here, so I'll try to be as concise as I can. You've got a big group of people in this country who are willing to help everyone....bend over backwards to make everyone feel welcome, and thinks that America will make the world a better place. They also have no problem with America footing the bill. Then you have another big group that is a bit leary. They arent buying into the fact that Muslims are basically a decent people concerned with the welfare of the world.
Now there is propoganda machines on either side....one preaching the good of Islam, and being tolerant. The other side is again leary, listening to the propoganda from their side, concerned with the ideas of sharia law....terrorist activities.... and being hypervigilant as to not get "caught with their pants down" so to speak.
Although there is hypervigilance amongst the latter group, it is building within the first group. They really are pushing for tolerance, while the other side is saying 'take a look at this".... now all of these groups have to intermingle in their daily lives....and there are sattellite groups, and people who dont want anything to do with the thing.
As time goes by, each sides story gets watered down by them selves and by the other side. This in return starts to bolster the population within the sattellite groups, and the people who just become disengaged with the idea. Fear and distrust get stronger on the one side, charity begins to blossom on the other, and more people disengage....Then you end up with huge pile of crap that lies before us today.
Anymatter...I've just confused the hell out of my own self. But as far as Christianity and its "bowing and scraping", one really doesnt need to go back that far. WWII and the ideals of Adolph Hitler....people were claiming to be one thing or not one thing in order to preserve their own lives. How many people did Hitler exterminate? Religion played a huge, major part in that.
This really frustrating. I get how you feel. The news media is biased one way or the other, and this is casting doubt on both sides. Who do you believe?

Ask WHY why is all this pussyfooting lol pardon the pun going on for Islam ... no one will say why .....I have never seen such bowing and scraping over countries with a differant faith, do we do this with Hindu, Budda , Christianity, so WHY can anyone enlighten me...what is going on that Islam is so important over any other faith..whats happening here that I am missing...yelling and screeching from all quarters media , public outcry, about the Koran maybe have been burnt ..it verged on Hysteria .but no one was concerned about bibles, flags , images, crosses ...no outcry from America then....be careful what you wish for is all I can think of ....as an immigrant I find it astounding .....
Yes I would agree then. Turkey has taken the right steps since 1920 to modernize the country to stop some of the fundamentalism people are concerned about and that was one reason the Muslim Brotherhood was formed to begin with. Unfortunately there are reactionary elements in Turkey that are trying to change that back. Considering the oppressive nature of the government in Iran and how they have forced Sharia laws on the people there I would not make any concessions to Iran. There I agree.
This game was in Turkey. Part of a tournament. The cheerleaders had worn their shorts for every other team. This was only done for Iran.
If that was done in the United States that would of course be politically correct and unnecessary. If it was done in a country the United States was visiting that would be another matter. However of course in return anyone visiting here would be expected to understand the basic traditions of the United States and respect them.
A burqua bikini! Now there's a thought!
Just dawned on me that maybe when these cheer leaders from the US visit Iran the Iranese cheer leaders witl wear Bikinis for US law ...LOL
