Sharia law and homosexuality

For those who find no problem with sharia law being instituted in the US, try this video.  How long before Canada and Great Britain have to deal with this?

I read about that case Sara about the 17 year old,  I was indeed horrified by the details . that Imam did say we were the most compliant country in the west , there is much trouble according to my family in London regarding sharia law ,so I am inclined to accept their word they would have no reason to lie to me .

A few comments I want to make on your comments..

-The right to build the Mosque vs. should they build it - As you know I have flipflopped over this issue almost daily.  I really really hurt for the victims of 911.  It was a horrible day and one that absolutely should never ever be forgotten.  Problem is that what is morally correct really is a matter of perspective.  That's why I found some of the comments by victims family who were fine with the Mosque so interesting.  And when it comes down to principal vs. law, the law has to take precedence. Now, I agree, perhaps it would be nice if they voluntarily moved it...but honestly, isn't that giving in to some of the prejeduices (I don't necessarily just mean racial, I mean the growing belief that all Muslims are terrorists).  We all have to accept (or should in my opinion) that there is a world of difference between moderate Islam and radical Islam.  At least that has been my experience, and many firmly believe that.  So if the issue to move it is pushed, isn't that in fact solidifying that this war is against Islam, and that all Muslims are to be feared?  As for Mosques not being built at all, there are many references on line from people who do believe that. Look at some of the journals floating around this very website...it is a growing movement, and one that is very scary.

As for the Imam's statments...yes, very controversial.  However, he has not committed any crime.  He perhaps see's things in a way that many would consider very offensive (myself among them I should add), but I think we have all said things that came out wrong.  The fact that he was vetted by both the Bush and Obama administrations, and has acted as an Ambassodor for both speaks volumes to me.  Do you really think either President would have risked sending out someone with terrorist ties?  Things never are kept "under the rug" for long. I just don't think either would risk it.  I don't know, for me the jury is still out on that one.  As far as we know, he hasn't done anything, and that is how the justice system works.  So I am reserving judgement for now, although admittedly I have suspicions like I think many do.

Osama Bin Laden was (at least this is my understanding) trained by CIA or US military. At least this is what I have read.  It was of course during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, so times were very different.  Obviously what has happened was not the intent.  He just either turned radical or used the US for training while plotting the whole time.  We shall never really know the whole story there I suspect.

Homosexuality is considered a sin in the Islamic world, same as in Christianity.  And unfortunately most Muslim countries are not as foreward thinking as countries like the US and Canada.  Makes me glad I live here, not there.

And Sharia I stand firmly against, as I think most people do.  It goes directly against our laws, and should never ever be accepted.  The law should be the law for all and I suspect when all is said and done that will remain the case.  If not, I for one will leave..and I love my country.

So there are many things I agree with you on.  My biggest and really only issue is that we are seeing so many really negative things said about Islam in general.  We seem to be lumping everyone of that faith together.  I would not want someone to judge me as a Christian based on the former terrorist activities of the KKK, know what I mean?  I just feel everyone should be judged as an individual, not the faith they practice. I guess part of it is based on the fact that I do have Muslim friends.  My family Dr. is also Muslim...they are no different then I, they just go to a different location to worship.

A couple of things I see here I'd like to comment on.

!.  The constitutional right to build the mosque is absolute and uncontested.  It's whether it's the right thing to do.  NYC is a liberal city but still 63% of New Yorkers don't want it located THERE.  Move it a few blocks over.  I don't know anyone who thinks that mosques shouldn't be built at all.  They have every right to worship as they please.  I don't care if they build one down the street from me.  There's a Catholic and a Baptist church there already.

Another problem I have a problem with are statements made by this Imam that America has more blood on its hand that Al Quaeda. He blames the USA, not Saddam Hussein, for deaths of children during the embargo that Clinton put in.  Humanitarian aid was sent and allowed in.  And we're responsible for Saddam keeping these supplies from his people????? HUH??

Also just days after the 9/11 attack, he stated on 60 Minutes that we'd brought this attack on ourselves.  He went on further to say the Bin Laden was made in the USA.  Bin Laden was angry when the Saudi government allowed Americans to use Saudi as a base against Iraq during the first Gulf war.  And if memory serves, we were part of an international coalition that was invited to come in and stop Saddam's aggression.

He also says that the US is the most Sharia compliant country in the West.  HUH??  And he does want to institute it here.  The Sharia Index program is in the building where they want the new mosque.

2.  Homosexuality is punishable by death in Islamic countries and they do carry it out.  Technically, the Qaran calls for them to thrown from tall buildings.  If you're homosexual in an Islamic country like Saudi Arabia and Iran, you better stay in the closet.

Just recently in New Jersey, a 17 year old girl was forced to marry an older man.  Both are Islamic.  She was trying to escape the beatings and rapes (her words) and looked to our judicial system for relief.  The judge bought the argument that Sharia law took precedence over US law because both were Islamic.  This has since been overturned.  But yes, Sharia law is a danger to anyone who is not a straight Islamic male.  It does NOT in any way comply with the US Constitution.

Thank you for saying that.  I appreciate it.  It might help to understand a bit why I have an opinion..you see everything that happens in the US does impact us as your allies and neighbors. Besides, you are our neighbors and most of us take that quite seriously.  We do not want the US to 'go down" at all...to the contrary..we wish to see it prosper.

Anyway, about the poll.  I found the link below to have some really good information, explanations and stats.  The poll I am referring to is under the heading Polls.  There is also sections about those opposed to the Mosque and those that are for it.  I was interested to see that most Manhatten citizens have no problem with it, and that there were even several family members of 911 victims coming out in support.  Either way, it's good info, at least it was for me.  Here is the link

As for Sharia law, in my opinion it has no place in a free society at all (actually, in my opinon it has no place anywhere, but that is a different conversation).  Here there has been huge opposition to having it taken into consideration.  It is my opinion that every religion has the right to pratice and worship in peace, but must do so within the laws of this country. Sharia law is not only brutal, it does not meet that criteria.

As for the protests in general against Mosques, I believe that everyone is innocent unless proven guilty of a crime.  So if it should turn out this Mosque is being either funded by terrorist activities/groups or is a recruiting centre or promoting terrorist activities then they should be dealt with the same way any murderer or someone plotting to kill would be dealt with.  Harshly.  Otherwise, I do feel they should be left in peace.  The hate that is coming as a result of this is quite terrifying.  I guess it's decision time for so many...is it a war against terrorism or a war against Islam.  Personally, I hope its the former.

Its two aspects at once. That is whether the mosque has a right under the constitution to be located there and whether it should be. I would not want to have any rulings made by the government as to whether any place of worship should be located as that would compromise freedom of religion and could be used against people at other times. but I do believe that it should be located elsewhere. I don't care for protests on either side of the issue being directly at ground zero. I'd rather that people who are against it protest at a meeting at city hall or where a meeting is being discussed as to the viability of this issue and the American public should have their say and it should be settled in a reasonable manner. Sharia law has no place in the United States. That's another legislative system and a very brutal one at that.

Not certain what polls you get but indeed you are entitled to your aspect , I have been wrong when I have voiced that other folks from another country have no opinion regarding what happens here , my Patrotism blinds me at times ... ..it is freedom we want ...

I can't speak to whether or not he is protecting the constitution over all...I don't know all of the issues.  The big issues I have read about or that we have discussed, yes I do believe he is.  For example, the Mosque near Ground Zero..the polls I read said that although something like 65% (sorry, can't remember the exact number, but it was something like that) were against it being built here, the majority of those did feel that it was their constitutional right to do so.  So it would seem to me that his comments reflected that.  Gay rights/marriage, same thing.  I have heard him say that in his personal belief marriage is between a man and a women....but at the same time the constitution gurantees equal rights under the law right?  So on those issues anyway I think that he is.

Sara I have been looking into the Sharia law situation in Canada.  It is all pretty confusing, but the way I am understanding it is that there was a move to have it taken into consideration when it comes to things like "honor killings". Seeings how Canada doesn't recognize honor killings, it does not recognize Sharia law.  So my understanding is that it has not in fact been instituted, just that the courts may consider an individuals background when applying sentence.  To date there haven't been any lighter sentences dolled out...so a killing is still considered murder, no matter the circumstances.  Thank God for that.

As for homosexual marriage and mosque's, I don't understand the correlation between "protecting the two".  Personally, my stance is pretty simple.  Canada guarantees everyone equality regardless of religious belief, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, etc.  I believe in that and do not want it to change. For me that opens the door to all kinds of equality.  Your left wingers in the US seem to feel the same way about your country.  Protect the constitution.  I have yet to meet anyone that wants Sharia law...but that has nothing to do with gay rights or the right to worship.

Actually I really meant that.... which way will the left wing radicals take it, they protect the mosque builders, and they protect Homosexual marriage .the two seem to clash somehow ..dont you think, we do live in interesting times...soon be November .....

oh crumbs ...I hear that if the mosuqe does get built at ground zero some enterprising American is going to build a Gay club next door .....lol love it ....could be a few sparks coming along the way ...if ...it gets built  makes me laugh in a way as I wonder which side the left wing rads will take, the Homosexuals or  Islam .. no they will reasonably be torn between the two .in that goody two shoes way they have ......
