Whooping cough vaccinations

New research reported by Reuters reveals that whooping cough outbreaks are HIGHER among vaccinated children compared with unvaccinated children. This is based on a study led by Dr. David Witt, an infectious disease specialist at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in San Rafael, California.

As Reuters reports: (http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/04/03/us-whoopingcough-idUSBRE832...)

In early 2010, a spike in cases appeared at Kaiser Permanente in San Rafael, and it was soon determined to be an outbreak of whooping cough -- the largest seen in California in more than 50 years. Witt had expected to see the illnesses center around unvaccinated kids, knowing they are more vulnerable to the disease. "We started dissecting the data. What was very surprising was the majority of cases were in fully vaccinated children. That's what started catching our attention."

This same article also admits that these vaccines have never been tested for long-term effectiveness:

"GSK has never studied the duration of the vaccine's protection after the shot given to four- to six-year-olds, the spokesperson said. Dr. Joel Ward at the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute said it's still important for parents to get their kids immunized, even though it doesn't provide lasting protection from whooping cough."

Huh? So let me get this straight:

• Whooping cough infections are MORE common among children already vaccinated against whooping cough than unvaccinated children.

• The whooping cough vaccines have NEVER been tested for long-term efficacy.

• Doctors openly admit the vaccine "doesn't provide lasting protection" against the disease.

• But doctors and government authorities mindlessly push the vaccine anyway?!

That's essentially like saying, "We know these vaccines don't really work, but everybody should get vaccinated anyway."

Well, I obviously don't know how valid this study is, but here is what I do know for certain about vaccinations in children.

Vaccines are only about 90% effective in protecting from any disease.  The real benefit is seen when every child is vaccinated..that's when we see diseases temporarily irradicated.  So when non vaccinated children are put into groups of vaccinated children, vaccinated children are still at risk.  That is why I am very much in favor of all children in the public school receiving mandatory vaccines...100% of them.  I do not agree it is the "mindless pushing of vaccines".  I think we forget how many people died of horrible diseases prior to the availability of vaccines.  Most people my age have never seen the death's caused by horrific disease.

This study does not change my opinion even a little bit, and my child will always continue to receive as much protection as I can give him from diseases we are seeing make a comeback.

And to be honest, when I see a study done by a single Dr. without backup, I can't help but think of the Dr. that falsified information to scare people about the non existent link between autism and vaccine.

The rate of autism among American children has nearly doubled over the past decade, according to a new report released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), jumping from about one in 150 children back in 2000 to about one in 88 children in 2008, which is the last time official estimates were calculated. And interestingly, this steady rise in autism rates coincides directly with CDC-endorsed vaccination schedules that have also risen sharply since the 1980s.

Back in 1983, for example, the CDC recommended only ten vaccines for children from birth through six years old (http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/images/schedule1983s.jpg). Today, that number has risen significantly to 29 vaccines and counting, many of which are now administered all at one time or in combinations like the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine (http://www.cdc.gov).

And yet the mainstream medical system and its allies in the government and media are willfully ignoring this glaring fact, blaming “unknown” causes and “genetics” for causing autism, which are the two most common catch-all scapegoats. And in explaining the drastic rise in autism rates over the years, the talking heads actually claim that there is no rise — the seemingly elevated autism rates are merely the result of improved autism screening methods that are now identifying more cases.

Vaccines, fluoride, MSG, GMOs, toxic chemicals, processed foods – the real causes of autism

Sadly, these laughably unscientific excuses for this epidemic condition are actually being taken seriously by many people, while the true causes of autism — vaccines, fluoridated water, monosodium glutamate (MSG), genetically-modified organisms (GMOs), toxic chemicals, and processed foods — continue to remain taboo subjects when talking about autism.

But any rational human being that takes the time to objectively investigate the science behind how autism spectrum disorders are, at the very least, spurred on by these and other toxins, will quickly realize that the ugly truth about autism is being concealed from the public. And while these factors may not cause autism symptoms in every single person that is exposed to them, they surely trigger it in many, especially when exposures are combined and persistent.

Vaccines, for instance, which the medical establishment have presumptuously declared to play absolutely no role in autism, continue to show up in independent, non-pharma-sponsored research as a cause of autism. Whether they contain thimerosal (mercury) or not, vaccines are definitively linked to neurological disorders that were largely non-existent prior to mass-vaccination campaigns.

Even the kangaroo “vaccine court” has quietly admitted this, having settled with several families whose children were injured by vaccines. Back in 2009, for instance, a vaccine court ruled that Bailey Banks, a young boy who suffered acute brain damage after getting the MMR vaccine, had indeed been injured by the vaccine. Special Master Richard Abell wrote at the time that “the MMR vaccine at issue actually caused the conditions from which Bailey suffered and continues to suffer” (http://www.ageofautism.com).

The case was one of several that has received little or no media attention, and yet it speaks volumes about the dangers associated with vaccines. It also exposes the lies of the deniers who have declared that vaccines are in no way related to autism — case closed.

Yes I would agree with you but also believe that the rise in autism should be furthered researched and the amount of vaccines given to children and their titration, dosage and schedule as well. This is the original article from Reuters:
http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/04/03/us-whoopingcough-idUSBRE8320TM20120403
Also the natural remedy industry isn't above its own politics which include downplaying concerns about (some) natural remedies which can be harmful:
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/21/us/politics/21hatch.html?pagewanted=all
I become concerned by some sites on the internet which
can promote conspiracy theories that can frighten people
and don't have research to support them.
In the past before I made decisions correctly which was to take all natural remedies (again the term is confusing because many are synthetic in nature) without a doctor's express approval and consent I did take some without further thought that caused some highly unsafe side effects (something I would not do now). As I do take treatments in this categroy now some of which I need medically (with a doctor's express approval and supervision) I do support them being available to people but with further research being conducted to see which ones are safe and effective and the appropriate dosage and the ingredients isolated and researched to develop medications (I take one now which is Lovaza that was developed from fish oil, another one I took in the past was Rozerem which was developed from melatonin).
I do agree both sides are conducting politics as usual and the consumer is the one who ends up on the losing side. However I credit recent regulations that have required the FDA to conduct further studies (some of which have required further oversight for some medications) of medications that were approved before current standards for research of medications were required and it would be within reason to require the same for vaccines.

This isnt whooping cough its about the H1N1 supposed 'pandemic' in 2009(NaturalNews) The long-term health damage caused by the great H1N1 swine flu scam "pandemic" of 2009 -- and particularly the mass vaccination campaign that accompanied it -- is already becoming apparent in the form of an autoimmune disorder. A new review published in the journal Public Library of Science ONE confirms that Pandemrix, a swine flu vaccine produced by drug giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), is responsible for causing an up to 1700 percent increase in narcolepsy among children and teenagers under 17 years of age.

Based on their findings, a cohort of scientists has determined that narcolepsy rates increased significantly following mass vaccination campaigns with Pandemrix. Compiled data has revealed that between 2002 and 2009, the narcolepsy rate among children under age 17 was 0.31 per 100,000. But in 2010, that number jumped to 5.3 per 100,000, which represents a 17-fold increase.

Similarly, research compiled by Markku Partinen of the Helsinki Sleep Clinic and Hanna Nohynek of the National Institute for Health and Welfare in Finland, both of which were also involved in the new research, has determined a link between Pandemrix and narcolepsy. Children not vaccinated with Pandemrix were found to have a 1300 percent less risk of developing narcolepsy compared to children who were vaccinated with Pandemrix.

But because the subject of controversy is a vaccine, researchers were quick to inject several caveats to their findings that deflected some of the blame to other potential causes. In their soft-peddled, politically-correct conclusion, researchers said they "consider it likely that Pandemrix vaccination contributed, perhaps together with other environmental factors, to this increase in genetically susceptible children."

But the findings are strong enough to have prompted officials in Great Britain to begin their own investigation into Pandemrix causing narcolepsy in children. Though the U.K.'s Health Protection Agency (HPA) has declared that seasonal flu vaccine is not linked to narcolepsy, the agency is concerned that Pandemrix is of a different breed, and that it is not necessarily safe for children (http://www.guardian.co.uk).

Back in 2099, it was confirmed that narcolepsy is actually an autoimmune disorder characterized by missing brain cells that are responsible for producing hypocretin, a hormone that promotes wakefulness. Based on those findings, which were published in the journal Nature Genetics, it appears as though Pandemrix may be responsible for actually spurring the immune system to destroy vital hormone-producing cells in young children (http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/05/090503132613.htm).

read it-----------  mainly in finland.  75% of all vaccinated and 67 total people had narcolepsy.  Heck, as a mother of young kids---  a bit of narcolepsy might be nice.  LOL

Anyway, to vaccinate or not is a personal choice and a big whatever to me.  People can have whatever view they want on the matter.

I do vaccinate my kids and wish that for all kids to keep them safe.  People tend to take for granted that these vaccinations eradicated very serious illnesses that children died of.  If there is a resurgence of polio or whooping cough in that it becomes common place again, I guarentee that pretty much all parents would line up to get their kids vaccinated.  It's human nature to forget how terrible a time it was when these diseases took people's kids away from them.

As far as the flu vaccine, I've never gotten it myself nor have my kids.  But the problem with a pandemic threat is you don't know if it will "pan" out or not.  The CDC backed the quick development of a vaccine and people were clamoring for it.  Was it fear mongering?  Well, people were getting sick at a fast pace for a while.  I know several that had h1n1 in my area, tested for it and everything.  Thank goodness for tamiflu!  But I am not a big conspiracy theorists-------  and feel that the drug industry and CDC on this one took the stance of better safe than sorry.

But again, I don't expect to convince anyone to be for anything they are already against.  And it's not worth arguing about.  So, it's a big whatever.

I was pregnant when H1N1 broke out.  I am so grateful it didn't turn out to be the pandemic it was initially thought to be, although it did meet standards for pandemic.  I know in our local hospitals we had quite a few pregnant women very ill, and some died.  Personally, I got myself vaccinated and also do for the flu every year.  My family as well.   Unfortunately the flu shot isn't really the best protection as we know the flu changes a bit every year, but I figure some protection is better then not.

And SM, you are so right.  It is human nature for people to forget how awful some of these diseases were.  Unfortunately with so many now not vaccinated, it's almost ineveidable we will see a resurgance of some of these diseases.  As for autism....the latest research now shows it's genetic in nature, which really does make far more sense.  If it was linked to vaccine, I would think we would be seeing a decrease.  For so many years vaccines were mandatory..anyone remember lining up in the school gym or cafeteria?  Here in Canada anyway, less people are choosing to vaccinate, yet the autism numbers aren't decreasing.

And it does make sense that more kids would be being diagnosed.  Autism is a spectrum, so as we learn more, more cases are going to be diagnosed.  That's such a good thing as more kids are now getting the extra help and interventions they need.  My cousin with Autism has an older brother that is on the spectrum, but much less severe.  Many years ago, it may have been missed altogether, but with the extra help, he is thriving.

I too don't put much stock in conspiracy theories.  They tend to be just that..conspiracy theories.  Not everything is some underhanded plot to do....well, whatever it is the conspiracy theorists think is happening.  It's entertaining though!
