Brown Discharge

I am 27 years old, and have been on the pill since I was 14.   I have in the last 3 years been advised by my obgyn to take two months worth of pills and then have a period.  I have been doing so, and have been taking the same brand.  I'm a little concerned because for about 5 days now, I have been bleeding heavy brown blood, with clots in it.  I am not supposed to get my period for another 4 days.  This has never happened before.  I'm concerned about the length of time this has been going on.  I called my obgyn and she says she thinks it's just from stress.   What do you think?

I was getting confused on when my period actually started.  Did it start when I started seeing brown spotting or did it start when I saw the bright red blood?  I called my GYNO and spoke to the nurse.  She said your period starts when you see the brownish spotting.  This is considered the start of your period.

My last period started on August 5th.  On August 31st in the afternoon, I noticed brown spotting.  This brown spotting has been very light.  As of September 4th, I am still experiencing this light brownish spotting.  My breasts are bigger and tender.  I have experienced no bright red blood or spotting.  I seem to be hungrier but I think it might have to do with the fact I am working out more.  My periods have been averaging a 30-31 day cycle.  Which means my period should've started on September 3rd.  Could I be pregnant?  Any suggestions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Well, your doctor could be right, it could be stress.  But do you think you've been really stressed out lately?  It could be a couple of other things.  Have you been very sexually active?  You could have been pregnant and miscarried.  Don't worry, it happens a lot and women don't even know it.  You could have some sort of infection?  I'm not a doctor, but if it continues much longer, I would schedule and examination with your obgyn, or get the opinion of another obgyn.    Sincerely,    Molyba

Now, Ive never been on the pill... so that's not something I can really speak from. BUT I have very irregular periods and have my whole life. And I think it sounds fine. Ive had heavy clotting periods, Ive had really thick brown discharge at the begining and end before, Ive had it so dark it almost looked black. And its all just variations in how your hormones influence your period. And with a change in your birth control schedule, that could be totally normal. However, if you are still concerned about it get it checked out. There's no amount of advise from random people that will make you relax if you aren't convinced. Hope that helps.
