Feeling of vommitting during meal...

I am 18 years old, 6 foot 0 inches, and weigh only 120 pounds. I have been underweight since I was a child.

Several months ago I got pretty sick but didn't go to the doctor. After a couple of days everything was fine - I figured I had a stomach flu. Ever since then, during my meals I will get a strong feeling of indigestion. The feeling is basically a feeling of fullness, lots of gas, and what has scared me the most is a feeling of vomitting. Luckily I have never vommitted during a meal, but I usually feel like I am stuffing myself so full that if I eat another bite I will throw it all up - even during the middle of a meal when I haven't eaten that much, or 1/2 of what I could eat 6 months ago before this illness.

I have read WEBMD, and it is recommended to eat slowly and to eat lots of small meals - I have tried this, but this problem continues to happen. It is more severe at lunch time. I don't mind the pain in my stomach or the gas, but I don't want to feel like vommitting everytime I eat.

On a side note, probably unrelated, I have been drinking Boost shakes (2 a day, 350 calories per shake) to try to gain weight. I have been doing this for over a year, and have not gained any weight. I usually eat between 2500-3000 calories per day. Also, I thought this problem might have been due to soda intake, so I've stopped drinking soda, and only stick to milk and orange juice, plus mostly healthy foods (non-fried, salads, meat, cottage cheese, etc). Bowel movements: good, 1 every 2 days.

I hope I can fix this & gain some weight...Thanks for your time in helping me!  -repost

Well, everyone has an opinion...
If your metabolism was high, you would probably eat ALOT and not gain weight, if it was low, you probably would be overweight snd sluggish. See a doctor, and get blood tests, with these Sx, any credible doc or PA will check your endocrine system and all other blood levels. I highly suggest you do this. We are made to function normally, and when something is not functioning normally, one cannot assume it is 'just a phase' And please dont eat pizza before you go to bed...
During the vietnam conflict, much data was  taken on casualties, and they found that in even healthy 18-25 year olds, many had aterial plaque and coronary build up do to poor dietary intake. In other words, even if you are healthy, if you eat foods that are  of poor value, you may be setting yourself up for problems when you are later on in life.

Do you have dry eyes or sinus problems? this could also be related to what ever is going on and may denote an endocrine abnormality,
a majority of which are within the power of medical science to correct.

On your weight issue, your metabolism is probably keeping you thin right now and weight gain may be difficult until you are older. What were your parents like at your age? Other men in the family?  If they had the same problem as you do, then relax.  You are just getting to the end of your "growth age".  Your body will experience a hormone change between 18 and 21 and your weight will stabilize.  After this period you should gain some weight naturally. In the meantime relax and enjoy not being fat.  My doc says to gain weight, eat pizza and go to bed. Most people will gain weight from that.  The feeling of reguritation during and after eating, especially with pain should be checked out with your doctor.  You may have a virus still, or you may have a physical problem. Best to have a professional check it out.  good luck
