My fingernail has a dent in it! How did it come down and how do I get rid of the nail dent?

Did you bang your finger nail recently? Usually with a nutrient deficiency a number of nails would be distorted. At 12 years old, you need to eat 2200-2000 calories per day and have a variety of food that includes starches, meats, fruit and vegetables. The fresher the fruits and vegetables, the better nutritional value. If your mother is concerned, suggest going to your MD and getting your blood tested. It will indicate if any nutrient, vitamin or mineral is deficient or not. Thank you for your question.

Vegetables are very important!  Especially dark green leafy vegetables and broccoli.  If you're not eating your vegetables, you likely have a nutritional deficiency.  It's good you're addressing it now, though, because as you age, this becomes more and more important.  You're about to enter puberty, so these vegetables are even more important when you start menstruating.  I'm not entirely certain what the nail indentation is caused from, so I'll leave that one for someone who knows.  But, I do know that your mother is absolutely correct about eating your vegetables, and I do know the dark green leafy vegetables and the broccoli are among the most important.
