Most iron supplements found in the drugstore or prescribed by physicians are not very well absorbed, and can cause constipation.  But the important thing is to know why -- are you seeing a physician and has he or she told you why your child is low on iron?  What do you feed your baby?

And if you still breastfeed, what do you eat?

Am still breastfeeding.  His doctor had done blood work. I eat mostly everything and he eat the same thing as me.

That doesn't answer the question -- if your diet is low in iron-containing food and you're breastfeeding, then that can be the problem.  Some people also just have certain medical problems that can cause a problem absorbing iron.  And as I said, most iron supplements are not made in a form that is well-absorbed.  I would say that if this continues and you're not getting any answers from your child's doctor, it might be time to see a different doctor for another opinion.

Go to Giant Eagle, Walgreens, Rite Aid, etc. and purchase the chewable  "Flinstones with iron Children's Mulivitamin Supplement". Cut 1 vitamin in half, crush it up into a fine powder almost and just mix it in with your baby's milk or food. The iron levels should increase within a few days/weeks. Keep doing that process until the doctor says the iron levels are normal.

I would personally avoid any vitamin found in these stores and especially Flintstones.  First, this includes exactly the kind of cheap but poorly absorbed minerals that I was talking about.  Second, it includes other nutrients in the wrong form for proper absorption.  Third, it includes sugar or artificial sweeteners and coloring agents and other additives that are toxic.  There's a reason this product is inexpensive relative to what you find in a good health food store.
