Yes, plastic can contain toxic chemicals and chemicals that cause hormonal imbalances, on top of the fact that plastic is made from petroleum which is itself estrogenic and toxic.  In the US these chemical additives are slowly being outlawed, but I doubt India is doing much about it.  Some companies make better products than others, so not all are the same.  On the other hand, there are levels of leaching of the chemicals in plastic into what you put into them, and over time as you reuse them obviously the leaching slows down.  I don't know how you cook in plastic, because it melts, unless you're talking about the microwave, and in that case yes, the heat of the food will cause more leaching of any toxic chemicals.  It would be better not to use petroleum for anything, but I use it, we all use it, so the best thing is to use it over and over and not always use new containers and to try and use those that at least don't contain additional toxic additives.

I have never heard of any problems storing or eating food with plastic plates/utensils. As long as they are thoroughly cleaned they should be fine!
