Want to try intermittent fasting

Hi,
I know probably this has been asked before, but I did a lot of research about IF I was never interested in that, but seeing the results and knowing the health benefits kind of attracted me, I know it's about restricting from eating for a period of time in order to use the fat storage, but here is where I got confused, I used to read articles that says when you don't eat for several hours your body will enter a catabolic state, and this means it can also use your muscle proteins to kind of survive, in other words you lose muscle and possibly a small amount of fat, is this true, is it confusing with IF ? And is this type of diet ( I know it's not a diet) suits women who wants to build lean mass and lose fat at the same time ?

Fasting's usually a bad way to try to lose weight, for various reasons.

Aerobic exercising before breakfast though (but drink some water), might achieve what you're aiming for (preferentially burning off fat reserves).

Fasting is not generally a good weight loss or any other weight related strategy.  It's generally used for cleansing toxins out of the system.  Many people will fast a day a week, or a day a month, but the reason is for health, not for weight purposes, as your metabolism will just go right back to normal just as it would after a one or two day binge such as at Thanksgiving.  At least this is how the people I know who fast do it and why.
