The main natural remedies used to treat outbreaks are L-lysine and lemon balm (also called melissa).  You can find products for this at the best health food store in your area.  If you get repeat outbreaks there are also remedies you can try to prevent them, such as a formula made by Herb Pharm.  A book called Prescription for Nutritional Healing will give you an overview of everything that might be useful for this condition, and seeing an herbalist or naturopath or practitioner of integrated medicine can help you if you don't know much about this stuff.  Just googling it can give you a lot of information, but be wary of products sold by direct marketing over the internet.
