Help for obsessive fantasies

How can i stop obsessive thoughts/excessive fantasy/daydreaming? I am a bit confused on what it is I actualy do I am only now admitting to myself that its a problem! I have been diagnosed with depression for many years and recently diagnosed with agoraphobia, I am on medication for depression and sleeping pills and recently anxiety pills. I am now thinking that maybe depression wasnt the actual problem just the result of years of daydreaming and beating myself up about none of it coming true! Can anyone help me understand whats wrong with me?

Hi there.  I'm sure you have read the above.  Your daydreams are truly interfering with your daily life.  The question is why can't you stop them?  Why do you prefer to be in that world instead of this one?  I get what you are doing because like I said, I do it myself but not to the extent that you do it.  So my suggestion is to see a professional...a psychologist.  There are root causes for everything and this one just needs to be teased out.  You recognize it is a problem and so now is the time to get help with it.  My daydreams take me away from my everyday life which gives me a break and helps with stress.

We all have stress in our lives and perhaps this is your way of coping with it.  How is your self-esteem?  Do you have a lot of friends, do you go out with your friends, do you have a girlfriend or boyfriend?  Your profile says male but I'm not sure if you are...a lot of people don't change that.

since a very young age i have been day dreaming excessively, i still do. it interferes with my daily activities because i can get nothing done and sometimes even lose sleep because i much rather prefer to stay away and finish or continue a fantasy... during day time i like to take, what i tell others, a nap. i dont really sleep. eyes are closed but i am only doing that so i can daydream in peace! i cant get anything done! help

Have you talked to anyone about these daydreams?  There is something called Maladaptive Daydreaming which I do myself but for me it does not interfere with my every day life.  Like you said they are fantasies and for me are not meant to be real life.

So for instance, if you fantasize about hitting the lottery and all the things you would do with the money, and it doesn't come true...you get depressed?  This is just a for instance...it may be totally something else for you.

Hi and welcome. We are born in  a world that has many things to offer yet we are raised in an enviornment where we are not taught many ways to acquire them.
Some is our fault from not being on the straight and narrow and others are to blame for not giving us the right direction from day one.
What to do now? Know your limits and be focused on only those things attainable with your current knowledge and get schooling or counciling to expand your knowledge base and skills
