you are not loseing it,,,this is ocd,, Manifestations of Psychotic Episodes

A typical psychotic episode manifests itself in one or more of the three following ways:

1. Hallucinations: believing something is there that actually is not there. Hearing something strange and knowing that it is strange is not a hallucination. The hallucinator perceives the voice; their brain says, "That's Dad calling me," with no doubt at all. The non-hallucinator hears the voice and says, "Could that possibly be Dad calling me? But he moved out a year ago." If you are not sure what you heard or even if you wonder if it is a hallucination, it is not a hallucination. A hallucinator is absolutely positive (though they may have their doubts later on). So, during a psychotic episode, you usually "hear voices."

2. Delusions: believing something is true that couldn't possibly be true. I'm not talking about believing that Bill Clinton never had sex with Monica Lewinsky. I'm talking about physical impossibilities or grandiose ideas such as believing that you were born on Mars or that you are Jesus Christ come back to life.

The most common delusion is paranoia: fear that gets way out of hand. You may be constantly afraid that bad things will happen to you or that people will hurt or betray you. You may pick up your gun every time you answer the door.

3. Problems With Communication

Probably the most common thing that happens during a psychotic episode is that you have a lot of trouble talking straight. Your words and sentences get garbled -- all mixed up like a "word salad." Each individual phrase or sentence makes sense, but they are out of order and you never quite get to the point,,i hope this helps i know the hell of ocd the fact that you are aware of your thoughts and you are questioning them is the key that you are not scitzophrenic

You are right. Psycotic patients wont even question wether their thoughts are real or not. They are always positive about what they think. Good insight.

i hallucinated and heard voices because of very stressful high anxiety. if you realize it's anxiety, then thats what it is. schizophrenia is a psychotic disorder. When you're psychotic you don't know what's real and what's not. The fact that you can separate reality and dellusions means you're not schizophrenic.

I have suffered ocd for 11 years now. Also pure-o type. My obsessions have been drifting and switching all over the years. I have had obsessions about harming people, about losing control, crash my car against another car on the road while driving, yield at the movies and so on. OCD is distonic, which means people know their obsessions are different from their personalities and beliefs.
About you schizophrenia thing, ocd also brings, a lot of fear, a lot!! many people with ocd sometimes imagine things because of the power of sugestion, this happens when the fear is panic i guess. Also irrational thoughts about ocd are in a wide variety. It happens to me a lot too that i think i hear something and then become a little anxious about to know whether it was real or not. Anxiety before uncertainty is a main characteristic of OCD. Also you have to think if you are taking any medications that might bring some kind of thoughst as a side effect.

i suffer from this too. one of my biggest fears is devoloping some scary mental illness. My best advice as always is therapy, and if needed medications from your pdoc. I'm like 85% O and 15% C, so i know how terrible this is. I'm weening off a med to get on a med better for ocd so I'm in kind of a rough place right now so I can't offer much more advice but please keep in touch and let me know how you are doing.

I suffer from severe pure o ocd and one of my intrusive thoughts became the thought of becoming schizophrenic or having a phycotic episode.. Im currently working with a top ocd phycologist that has explained that the intrusive thoughts manifest from what we most fear.... Ocd and anxiety are considered the WHAT IF disorder and whats called catastrophic thinking which is thinking worst case scenario... I thought i was the only one suffering of fear of becoming phycotic... Not that im happy but its relief to know im not alone ....  Im currently in a ocd workshop doing cognitive behavioral therapy and one of things to ease the thought of becoming schizophrenic. Is to say Oh well ...the more u avoid the thought the more u feed the anxiety which feeds the thought ..... Ive learned this to be very helpful ..face the thought , say oh well who cares if i go crazy then my anxiety dissipates and i completely forget the thought. ...
