Anyone tried Anafranil?

Hello. I currently am suffering with OCD involving HIV fear and I am thinking of possibly going on medication again along with counseling. I've been on many different drugs including Elavil, Zoloft, Lexapro, Depakot, Risperdal, and probably more that I can't even remember. I had a bad experience and finally when I decided to come off them I was LOADS better. But now my mind is going crazy again.

I've looked up meds and I'm seeing a lot about Anafranil associated with OCD. Has anyone had any experience with this particular drug? I'd appreciate any input.

Thanks Koocachoo!  I hope your psychiatrist can find something that works for you that doesn't have any bad side effects like you described.

RainLover, what is a good dosage for Lexapro?  I know everyone is different but I am thinking about getting on something new once I have my baby.  My doctor seems to think I should continue with Zoloft at 300mg, but I feel like it could work better.

Lexapro is a great medication and so are some of the benzos for OCD related anxiety.

I remember Zoloft working very well for me and then after a while I ended up getting so nauseous and I was starting to feel bad again. I will probably be getting in with a new psychiatrist sometime very soon so I can have a fresh start so to speak. Maybe a new doctor could have a new approach. I will let you know if I have any luck with a med. Also good luck with the rest of your pregnancy! :)

The only medications I have tried for OCD is Paxil and Zoloft.  I had to go off Paxil because it made me gain a lot of weight.  The Zoloft works, but only at a really high dose, 300mg.  If you also combine it with a benzo, like Kolonopin, I find it works fairly well.  There are 6 or 7 SSRI medications that treat OCD. Most of these have to be on high dosages to help with OCD specificially.  I'm sorry that none of those medications worked for you.  Let a psychiatrists know your history and symptoms and hopefully he or she can help you decide which medication is right for you.  Oh, and if that medication works, please let me know as I am wondering if Zoloft is helping me as much as another medication could be.  I'm currently on 100mg because I'm pregnant and I'm literally going crazy.  9 more weeks (hopefully) and I'll be back on 300mg and maybe life will not be so scary for me all the time.
