Fear of open cut infections

HI i always have a fear of getting infected through open cuts in my body.I reconfirm my hands many times before getting things from others so i will always avoid to get things directly from someone's hand as i always have a fear what if that other persons have an open cut & what if incase that person is infected by HIV.For this reason i always wont touch any strangers or get any things directly from anyone.I always leave few secs gap before touching any item which was already touched/handled by any strangers just to ensure that virus will die when exposed in that few secs.Am in to business & this habit affecting me in big time as am reluctant to shake hands with clients & reluctant to touch/handle things by them almost immediately.Pl help me to get out of this habit.

It's not an easy thing to tackle.

You have to know the facts and try not to overthink things, I am currently on medication because I could not do this without it.

Hello and welcome to the forum,

i can personally relate to your situation as I do the eaxct same thing and I work in sales and in an office and very often haveto handle things touched ny people and shake people hands etc..

I have OCD so I am fully aware of what I am dealing with. It seems to me that you are suffering from the same disorder.

It is not an easy thing to do. I will suggest that you keep your concerns on this forum as we understand what you are going through and others do not. To them no means no and to us it means no BUT what if.

I think that you should definanetly seek medical attention for this as OCD is not an easy thing to deal with.

I have contamination fears myself and I am always concerned with blood. Just this evening someone came to the desk with scabs all overr their knuckles and panic set in. I touched nothing from them but I still washed my hands after they left. It's not an easy thing to deal with when fear is a constant in our lives.

I am unable to write more just now, but I will write more later.

Be well.

Basically, the ONLY way you would EVER get HIV is by having unprotected vaginal or anal sex with an infected person, or sharing IV drug works.  That's it.

You really do need to get some profesional help.  This is an OCD forum, not an HIV forum.  You would be wise to utlilize it to start addressing your irrational fears.

My recommendationwould be to seek professional help, as it sounds like your could have OCD, or an anxiety disorder.

You cannot get HIV from casual contact.  It's classifiied as a "sexually transmitted disease" for good reason.  Basically, the ONLY way you would EVER get HIV is by having unprotected vaginal or anal sex with an infected person, or sharing IV drug works.  That's it.

MANY people have a very overinflated view of HIV due to subpar education and fear-based education.

I do suggest you reach out to a professional to start addressing your anxiety.  It's no way to live to be so fearful of something, especially when the fear has no basis in reality.

Good luck to you.
