obsessed with noses

hi there..not sure where to post this. I have had panic disorder and obsessions (fear of vomiting and serious diseases) all my life. Recently i have noticed my teens nose is getting a bump in the bridge and i am terrified her nose will get big like mine. I have been looking at photos of her and now i am noticing everyone's nose and whether it has a bump in it. I feel this ridiculous feeling of horror that it will keep growing. I know this is silly and superficial.

Thankyou for replying.. its really helpful having someone understand! I know i am doing the worst thought scenario as usual. Yes i can try not to panic and know there are other options. its just so easy to  go down this spiral of terrible thinking isn't it! God knows why thinking positively is so hard. Cheers :)

Hi there and welcome to the OCD forum.

Just from what you are writing I can tell you know this is just another irrational thought in what has been a long line of irrational thinking for you.  What did you do in the past to help you with your health anxiety?  Did you see a therapist, take medication, or was it not bothersome enough that you were able to deal with it?

What I would suggest is trying to replace that irrational thought with a positive one such as "So what if her nose gets bigger, nose surgery is always an option she can choose if she wants to."  "I have no control of her genetics, therefore it is going to be what it is going to be."

You need to let go of the control you are trying to have over how your daughter's nose looks.  You are your own best motivator so self-coach yourself "It doesn't matter, I can't control it, so move on."

I hope this helps and certainly post again if you need anything else or are having problems.

Take care.
