Is this OCD?

I have been hearing voices to hurt people I love and who are close to me.  Is this OCD or something else?  I am currently seeing one doctor and looking for another therapist but this is all very scary, especially not knowing.

I got over it with a lot of prayer, support from my family, and the proper medication.  I don't remember the names of the meds I was on now.  I do remember that it was a very scary time in my life as the voices were telling me to kill my husband.  It's hard for me to even think about, cause I am afraid they will come back!

I hope you get better soon!

Did you see regular medical doctors or a psychiatrist (spelling???)?  My regular family doctor (for when I have the flu or a sinus infection) loves to call my OCD depression and OCD is not the same as depression.  My regular medical doctor knows very little about OCD.  Another possible reason could be schizophrenia.  My OCD is my own disturbing thoughts afraid I will or someone else will accidentally hurt someone. I don't actually hear anything at all, just think things.   My obsession is with Safety especially regarding the people that are close to me.  Are the voices different sounding as in high, low, men , women, kids?  Did the doctor try to help you with this?  Try not to get discouraged.  It took quite a while before we found meds that helped me with my OCD.

You have been through the same thing?  How did you get over it?  I saw two doctors and they think it is OCD.  I will bring up psychosis next visit.  Thank You.

It sounds to me like you have psychosis.  This is really serious and you need to get help asap.  You can overcome it!  I have been through this and reached the other side.  Are you depressed?  Or perhaps bipolar?  See your dr. soon!  I can't emphasize it enough, see your dr. soon!

I agree with mandyisme

If you hear voices then it doesn't sound like OCD to me, if you have thoughts of doing things then it could be OCD

From my understanding as a patient with severe OCD, OCD is more about your own thoughts.  I have never heard of someone with OCD hearing voices that are not their own thoughts.  Maybe someone else will come along on here who knows more about that type of thing than I do.   It sounds like it may be another condition, but I am no doctor.  I would talk to my doctor about it as soon as I could and tell him what you are experiencing.  Try not to get discouraged because many people have problems of a similar nature they have to have seen about medically.  Best of Wishes!
