Worry about dirty surfaces

Good Morning,

I have been diagnosed with OCD, my problem is that I think that  all surfaces could have blood on it like door bolts so I try not to touch them and wash my hands a lot, I also have another problems like checking the door at night few times before going to sleep by the worst problem that I have is that I think that I could get HIV from a surface that have blood on it, I do not scare of dirty at all, my problem is the blood.

1) My psichiatrist put me on 10Mgs of Lexapro daily and she said I will get congnitive therapits in few days, I have been on the medicine for a week by I dont feel that symptoms are getting any better so my question is do you know how long takes the medicine to do the effect and I get better?

2) Is there any way that I can help my self, like an auto therapi while I wait?

3) Please if you have any recomendation for me I would be glad to here it

Thank you very much and I am sorry for my english it is not my native languaje.

Hi and welcome! MANY people on here understand what you are going through so I hope you feel comfortable here and feel like you are able to vent about any frustrations you have with this stupid disorder!

1) It may take several weeks for the effects of anti-depressants to fully kick in. Don't lose hope if you don't feel any different right away.

2) Well, personally, I keep reminding myself that HIV basically loses its ability to infect people when it leaves the body and reaches the air. So if it's on surfaces, then it is weak and not able to infect you. Perhaps you could visit the HIV board on here. There are people more knowledgeable about the virus than me that can put your mind at ease as why not to worry about being infected with the virus unless you share drug needles and other risky activities.

Thank you for your comments, I try to remind me that, that HIV is not transmitted by surfaces but sometimes I get nervous and can`t control, thank you for your response, by now I am on the second week on Lexapro, I went yesterday to my Doctor and she said that Lexapro is very safe and that after a month I will feel better, she also sent me to a phycology to star the therapids, she also said that the treatment will last between 6 month until a year.
Thank you again, and I am sorry for my english it is not my native languaje
