obsession?

My daughter is almost five. She goes from one obsession to another. Examples: mentions uncomfortable underwear for two months; making pony tail tight every time we make her for two months; then clearing her throat every 5 seconds; she baits her nails (this has been ongoing for a couple of years); very competitive.
Otherwise she is a pretty healthy child, very happy, very smart (can read, learns very quickly, etc.); she can help with choresvery hyper though, but patient and able to finish tasks; can play by herself (talks to herself a lot while playing) and talks......constantly. sometimes her teachers suggest that she has HDHD based on her hyperactivity but her other behaviors seem to contradict. Any idea if there is anything we should worry about?

My daughter has sensory integration disorder (SID) and the first couple of symptoms you mentioned sound a lot like it. (uncomfortable underware, tight pony tail, nail biting etc...) It all could be sensory related. My daughter excels in school and is socially acclimated. She has been in thearapy for several years. The obessions or serious agrivations or fears can change from year to year. A few yrs ago she was terrified of riding the bus (vibrations from seat) then last year it was the fire alarm (extremely loud sounds). Are all her obsessions sensory related? If so, I suspect SID. Not all doctors are experienced with this so I would look around. Good luck.

ADHD can sometimes occur with sensory disturbances like sensory integration disorder.
