instep hurts everytime i run/ play soccer

Hello,
I have been having this problem since I started playing soccer which is about 5 years ago.
It is fine if I am just walking or whatever. But, once I start running, i feel pain in both of my insteps. I always stretch before running or playing soccer, but, it is not helping a lot.
I'd really appreciate any help!

Thank you

Hi,

I have had excisions of the accessory navicular in both feet.  I never had any problems until a had a slight injury while trail running at 42 years old.  Our daughter (then age 11) had problems with the same congenital issue while running and playing soccer.  A simple x-ray can either confirm the accessory navicular or rule it out.  Happily we have had lengthy but successful recoveries with fusions of the bones and reallignment of posterior tibular tendons and are back on our feet.  I hope it is the same for you.  Research for a good foot and ankle orthopedist in your area.

You may have an accessory navicular, which is an extra bone growth on the tarsal navicular, the bone in the arch of your foot. This can be accompanied by an abnormal attachment of the posterior tibial tendon (PTT) and can cause the sort of pain you are describing.  Occasionally, the accessory navicular is injured and separated from the "true" navicular.  If this does not heal correctly, it can also be a chronic source of instep pain.
Finally you may just be suffering from excessive pronation, turning in of the foot when you run.  You could try a pair of arch supports in your soccer cleats.
